Has anyone ever used a British Airways rewards card? How difficult was it to use the points to upgrade from one level of seating to another. If I can get 25k more points, and they promise them in the first 3 months, I can upgrade from premium economy to business class, and save half the price of the ticket.

I have gone thru this before. It's a simple process, just need some patience and good deal of follow ups: 1. Get your detail credit report from any free (reliable) site or credit union sites. 2. Check if you have any negative marks (30/60/90 days late are extremely negative and just 1 such mark can reduce your score by 25-30 points, which is what happened in my case. 3. Contact that credit provider (whoever put that entry) and try to get it reverted. (they sometimes do this without much hassles, if its a genuine case. 4. In 1 month after removal your score can go up by many points (mine went yo by whopping 70-80 points) Good luck!

I am rebuilding my credit I am trying to get a mastercard, visa, or discover. I have been paying on time doing what I need to do. All I get is denied

Hi Susan,

If you are repeatedly getting denied for credit card application, it would definitely be a good idea to get a copy of your credit report to make sure there aren't an errors on it. All US citizens are entitled to one free report per year from each of the three credit bureaus and you can access them at AnnualCreditReport.com.

Even if there are no errors on your report, you may simply be applying for cards that require excellent credit while you have good or fair credit. You can always check your credit score for free by signing of for our Credit Concierge service. Signing up only takes a few minutes and it won't negatively impact your credit score.

Hi Robert,

If you're repeatedly being denied for credit card applications, it probably means one of two things. You may simply be applying for cards that require excellent credit, but your score falls in the good/fair range. I'd recommend checking your credit score to see where you stand before filling out any more applications. You can see your free credit score and a full credit report from TransUnion by signing up of our Credit Concierge service!

The other possible cause for getting denied is that you simply have a very low credit score. If that is the case, you'll probably need to start with a secured credit card to begin building credit. I would recommend taking a look at the Capital One Secured MasterCard and the Discover it® Secured, or you can visit our secured credit cards page to see all of the options!

They all tell you how many points you receive per dollar...big deal. The big question is how many reward point equal a dollar?

What Visa or Amex offers the highest rewards rate with no limitation (i.e. 3% on $5 whichever is higher)? I am looking for the biggest bang for my buck. I don't want air and travel miles, I am basically homebound in a very small community and leave rarely. Originally I signed up for the Chase Amazon before doing much review (my error, I know) and have found that it will not be the best card for me. I would to be able to use apple pay. Am I wishing for a pipe dream? I have excellent credit - always pay my bill long before it is due, have had the same credit card since I COULD get a credit card and just realized there are a lot more options for someone in my position now. We paid cash for our cars and 30 acre farm - we own nothing. Ironically that hurts my credit score. I suppose they want someone they can make a little cash off of; I don't know. Any suggestions? Amazon, iTunes, prescription medications, and health insurance supplements to my existing Medicare are by far what I spend the majority of my money on. I do not work. I am on SS Disability from a plethora of medical problems that I don't really want to disclose in this forum. Any and all advice appreciated. Thank you.

A little bit of help, perhaps: The AMEX rewards card gives 3% back on Supermarkets and I use Safeway for my prescription meds. For some reason that allows me the same 3% reward. On gas when I occasionally drive (to Dr.'s, I am home bound too) the the Pentagon Visa gives 5% cash back unlimited on gas. I bought my last car (u mentioned buying your farm with cash) entirely on my Fidelity Visa Cr Card which gave me 2% back on a $40,000 purchase! While for 3 weeks my credit score dipped, as soon as I paid it off, it went back to excellent. We won't be getting rich this way, but every little bit helps.

Best Credit Card Rewards

Rewards credit cards offer the cardholder the chance to earn special incentives or to accumulate points that can later be redeemed for rewards, perks, products, or services. You can find the best reward credit card programs for virtually any category that you can think of these days, including travel rewards, airline frequent flier or mileage awards, hotel rewards, rental car rewards, rewards for buying gas or groceries, and cash back rewards.

Credit card rewards and rebates typically range from 1% to 5%, and many credit cards with rewards give you bigger or higher rewards for shopping or making purchases in specific categories like travel, dining, or gasoline. Or you get more points – including double or bonus points – in those kinds of categories. As with most rewards credit card programs, those connected to your credit card may have terms and conditions that you need to be aware of before picking the best rewards credit card for you.

Some credit card companies can place caps on how many points you can earn within a particular timeframe. Others limit how long you can accumulate points before you cash them in for rewards – or they might nullify points if your card remains inactive for a long time. So check the expiration dates and any limits like blackout dates for redeeming travel awards. If you get a great promotional reward bonus that too will likely expire within a set period of time – so be sure you take advantage of it while it lasts and are prepared in the event that something like your reward percentage or credit card interest rate changes with little notice.

To help you find the rewards credit card that’s best for you and your particular spending habits and lifestyle, Compare Cards has cataloged by reward redemption type. You’ll also find expert current reviews of the best – and worst – rewards credit cards, plus helpful side-by-side comparison tools that identify exactly what the pros and cons of each specific card are.

Reviews
