It is best to use more than one type of card. In different quarters they have different rewards. I get 5% back on gas in some quarters and 5% back on restaurants year round with US Bank and 3% cash with Bank of America. Discover gives you a $50 restaurant card for $45 cash back credit. But always pay them off each month so you don't pay those high interest rates.

I can't believe this is the best we have to pick from! You can have the best credit rating and still only get a 10.99% rate, this is like loan sharking, you can get a loan on a car for 2.66% or on a house. The same banks we the tax payers bailed out of trouble have raised rates so you will never get the card paid off. I guess our elected officials owe some payback for contributions received so they turn a blind eye to what's going on. If they had an Italian name they would be having the DA prosecute for loan sharking. Get out from under these crooks and burn the cards if you can't afford it now wait until you save the money to get it.

Absolutely Robert !!!!!! We bailed these Ba-----ds out and this is how they thank us ......while we're in a recession. Dirty Dogs.......Because of Illness and medical ......I'm seriously thinking about bankruptcy.....I called the credit card companies and explained my situation. I've been with them for years and paid them off numerous times. and when I need them to work with me ...they Can't......we're so sorry Ms. Blank. USSA is the BEST CARD.....used to only be available to military and dependent's. Now available to all. They did nor have they ever raised my APR.

By: Hilary Sperling | Nov 18, 2014

great answer i agree totally that if you cant pay off the card every month then get a card with money on it so you know how much you can use and still get credit

By: John Morrow | Dec 1, 2014

ok for you. yes the rates on credit cards are so high they make you poor.

By: Aj Jones | Dec 14, 2014

Robert, I agree with you. Last week I ran my card for purchases at a dollar store because they are the only store in the neighborhood with window curtain rods. The screen offered cash back. The cash back service charged $1 per request. I thought cheaper than an ATM but I as only asking for $10 any way and realized a dollar store has to charge $1 because they are low man on the totem pole of stores preferred by check and credit card services. The cashier and I had been discussing cash cards with Visa or MasterCard logos. We read their bottom lines when we could find them. Neither of us thought any of them were a good deal. I don't think credit cards by their nature can be a good deal for the consumer either. The best bank card is a good personal budget.

By: David MacRae | Dec 17, 2014

You get.065% on a 50,000 Money Mkt at Bank Americathat money cost them maybe 2% Stocking under pillow is better

By: Lorie Mondor | Dec 29, 2014

Absolutely no other comments to add to yours. All the truth...I paid mine all the time, extra when i could, went out of work due to injury,so now workers comp pays me some. I called mine, explained situation, asked for an extension of no interest for few months...ABSOLUTELY NOT AND was treated like a beggar on a street corner.Unbelievable, did they think i WANTED to fall and basically lose everything??? Tell ya something else, Obama care does not allow workers comp money to be used as income so, FULL PRICE insurance starting at 377.00 a month. I will stop rambling for now but am just pissed that nobody seems to get a break. same as Toni writes below me..

By: Shannon Jeffrey | Jan 23, 2015

If you use the card knowing you can't pay it off each month, then you shouldn't be getting the item. Things people buy with credit cards are wants not needs. People need a car, People need a house, They don't need all these items that the typical consumer pays with there credit card. Don't blame the credit card company for high interest rates. Its all about business. Just like a car loan. Not everyone gets a low interest loan when buying a car. Its all about personal responsibility, don't blame the credit card company, blame yourself if you have a card and can't pay it off due to high interest. Its not the high interest your mad about, it should be your dumbs that charged so much to the credit card.

it is unsecured debt and most times it costs the bank more than the customer balances to get the money back. most credit card customers do not bank where they have cards ....so those that ruined it by defaulting on lower balances have driven up the risk for the rest that continue to pay on a regular basis..... 10.99 is below the avg 12 for major brand visa/mc and way below the big box like macys, home depots 24%. don't like it........don't use it.

By: H Bruce Clem | Apr 7, 2015

Robert you are so right. These Corporate Loan Sharks get their money from the Federal Bank at 0% interest then have the Gall to turn around and Charge even their best customers 10-20% Now if that's not criminal I don't know what is. Here's away around these Corporate Crooks. If you do business with a Credit Union , and if you don''t I strongly suggest you do. You can get a credit union short term revolving acct. like your card at a much lower rate. Remember that a Credit Union works for you the share holder . Banks work for themselves and investors. Who do you think is going to look after you better?????

I tried getting the Prepaid Green Dot cards at Walmart just before going on vacation so I would know what money I had available. I bought two cards and put $100 on each. Only one of the cards would work and when I called to complain, they said the card number was wrong! I emailed them a copy of the front and back of the card and they told me it was not an active card! So, I say: Where is my $101.88 that I paid for it? I GET NO RESPONSE!!!

Sams 5-3-1 beats all these cards.

None of these beats the Sams Club 5-3-1 Master Card, 5% back on all Gas Purchases, 3 % back on all travel, hotel, airfare and restaurant and 1% back on everything else - and the amount of $$ you can earn back is much higher than any of these.. Should be the top rated card out of all of these.

I totally agree! Don't understand why it is not the number 1 card.

By: Julia Nava | Oct 29, 2014

But, does this Sams' card allow a balance transfer?

By: Michael Williams | Nov 24, 2014

what bank issues the card? probably Citi, (not interested).

By: Alfred Sears | Nov 26, 2014

22.99 on the 5-3-1 card

By: Helena Mak | Dec 3, 2014

How to apply? Do I need to be a member of Sam's Club? There are no Sam's Club in our area.

By: Robert Wesolowski | Dec 9, 2014

AmEx Preferred Cash is 6% cash back on groceries, 5% at department stores, 3% on gas and 1% on all other purchases. Cost is $75 per annum. The only negative is that the grocery cash back is limited to the first $6,000 in purchases.

By: Helen Rudolph | Dec 9, 2014

The problem is they don't pay but once a year. When they do pay do you get a check or credit at Sams club ?

By: Stacy C Bragg Jr | Dec 15, 2014

If you are qualified, The Pentagon Federal C U is paying 5,3 & 1 % (Gas, Shopping and Everything Else) There is no restrictions regarding time or max amounts. Check it out at www.penfed.com. This is the best rewards card bar none.

I have this card you speak of and also think it is a great card to have in your wallet!

Great, put MORE money into the Walton pockets. I boycott anything having to do with those greedy pigs.

I just wanted to add,,, (since my credit has recently been restored 15 yrs after I lost everything after a dead-beat dad didn't pay his part, etc) that my BEST credit situation is this,, join Ebates.com (use me as a referral please, [email protected], they only ask for your email & a created password, done. Then buy EVERYTHING that you normally buy online, THRU Ebates. PLUS apply for an Amazon Store Card, where you can buy anything! Just remember to login thru Ebates, no matter where you shop. Now you have a line of credit thru Amazon, Cash Back via Ebates (& yes, you can still use coupons, etc) so it is a Win Win deal! I have received other new credit cards in recent months but, this is THE best deal going, plus a check in the mail every 3 months. Perfect! Plus, you can shop anywhere thru Ebates & use ANY form of payment... I just prefer to use my Amazon Store card to keep things simple. Good Luck! I live on SSI & need to be careful with credit & pmnts, but this is Awesome!

By: Judy Briner Rogers | May 26, 2015

Ebates has a feature that will alert you when you enter any web site that gives cash back. All you have to do is choose this when you sign up with ebates. I'm getting much more rebates now because I would forget to go to ebates to connect my purchase with the cash back.

I like Cash Back. Used to use Bank of America and now I use US Bank as it has 2% on grocery purchases which is my biggest category. I am very pleased with US Bank. But I may look into the CITI double cash card. Sometimes there are limits for cash back and you have to read the fine print to see that, like the Chase cards.

I was just thinking ,is it that banks charge so much fees because they know if you bellie up ,the bank's get a taxs cut at the beginning of the year, it's just legal stealing for the banks and hard time for you and the banks well they get big bonus

By: Joe Luzar | Oct 27, 2014

US Bank card is best.

US BANK IS THE BEST ! AND ALSO SECOND CHANCE BANK

By: Mitchell AHealey | Nov 14, 2014

By: Robert Wesolowski | Dec 9, 2014

Michael, I don't pay interest on my cards but the cards pay me to make the purchases that I would normally make using cash. How does a bank get a tax cut for trying to drive purchases to their card?

By: Rachel Bernal | Mar 14, 2015

Hi kev Alessandri - I read yr comment. I have had great credic cards. HouseHoldbank - visa and was turned over to Capital One....Housebank gave me my 1st credit card Amt: 3,000.00 kept up payments....then they turned it over to Capital - had missed 2 0r 3 payments. - they cancelled me out - send it to collection - should I call them again - see if they still give me a second chance to start over again and I will pay as I go. I had another card patidnum in the amont of $300 - again they closed both account.....I really like to begin over again and really want them to give another chance....What do you think. should I call or not...

Why not try a credit union? They treat their customers better than banks. They have credit cards give loans on houses and cars everything a bank does. At a credit the members are the shareholders.

Why give all the breaks to new card holders. Why not the present card holders a break, especially the ones that pay thear bills on time?.

I agree Wayne I called Chase & they will not work with you on their card(s). Will be changing shortly NO MORE Chase for me.

By: James Norris | Nov 3, 2014

You bet!!! One would think that a TRIED and TRUE customer would mean something better than 17.9 -22.9 pro cent... No problem though.... I'll just dump them and move on to the NEXT 0% offer...

By: Ann Gosdeck | Nov 16, 2014

I really like your idea. Sure would be great if some credit card or cards did that....Thanks for your comment..

By: Frank Graves | Dec 16, 2014

USAA the best, look into what they ofter. Been a member for 40yrs

By: Chop Chopchop | Jan 12, 2015

I absolutely agree!! I tried with capital one and chase to lower my apr and I've been with both for over 8 yrs and both said NO..... NO LOYALTY on their part SMH and that is why they will lose my business.

By: Dennis Shivers | Jan 17, 2015

I agree with you..I used too carry 2 or 3 cards..Now they make you "reapply" in order to get the offers of 0% or 0% BT...Now I have so many cards I lost count..You cant cancel them because they claim its no good for credit..So I get what I want out of them and when "frill is up" I cut it up...

By: Gregory Grookett | Feb 8, 2015

Wouldn't that be nice but it will probably never happen. The good guy always gets screwed especially from these banks they don't really care about the consumer.

By: Rosalinda Brown | Feb 28, 2015

I like credit card because i know how to pay bills, but sometimes you have to pay the price,if you can not able to pay all you do is call the customer service they will help you..i HAVE two good cards one is secured an one is not they let me open $300 an every month i paid the bill.I have a secured Capital One $200 i negotiated to my bank to pay the check i wrote to pay my bills an they did but i was over limit. So i have to pay the price..I worked as a transit driver an ia making good money..But my score is improving a little,am happy of what i got,an now am going to join the credit union see if they can help improving my credit score..You well that we are living in a credit score if you do not have a record of credit no one will approve you if you are thinking to loan something, you have a better chance of having a poor credit that having no credit record at all>>>

By: Teddy Kielbasa | Mar 9, 2015

If you pay your bills on time the bank will not be able to charge you an exorbitant late fee. They'll get their money from you one way or another.

By: Thomas Wilson | Mar 16, 2015

I recently rid myself of 3 capital one cards who secretly raised my rates to 35% from 19%. I was wondering why after paying 25 dollars above the min pymt why I was not getting ahead. I paid them off the next month and they thanked me by lowering my credit score by 48 points.

By: Mark Livingston | Apr 20, 2015

USAA decided to not give me a loan to consolidate my credit cards. I have had them for 12 years and 7 months, and have never missed a payment. Reason for rejection; insufficient credit history.... 12 years and 7 months is not sufficient to know I pay my debts on time? JOKE!

By: Lorna Mailhoit | May 28, 2015

Do you have to be in the military to get USAA card?
