Expert Reviews

From the CompareCards.com Editorial Team

People with really great credit who want a wonderfully flexible travel card with no annual fees – plus especially good chances to earn miles – will enjoy the benefits of the Capital One VentureOne rewards card.

For starters, you can earn 1.25 miles per dollar on every purchase, every day, and then redeem rewards for a variety of travel products such as hotel reservations, airline flights, and car rentals. When you fly you don’t have to worry about blackout dates or other similar card program restrictions.

The interest rates are reasonable, ranging from 11.9%-21.9% (Variable), depending on your creditworthiness, which is also the same rate for balance transfers. The introductory rate is 0% percent through June 2016 on purchases only.

    Overall Rating

The Bottom Line

You can earn 1.25 miles per dollar, which is a decent rewards rate on all purchases. Meanwhile, you get to apply the rewards across a range of products and airlines without blackout dates or expiration dates. This is a superior card for those who like to travel and also like to put purchases on their plastic.

The Good

There is no annual fee, which distinguishes this rewards card from many of its most expensive and less flexible competitors. 20,000 bonus miles can be earned in the first 3 months of card membership after making $1,000 in purchases.

The Not so Good

Unless you have excellent/good credit, you probably will not qualify for this particular card.

I have both Citi Card ( American Airlines ) and Capital One. With American We went to Barcelona on 20,000 miles round trip each. I checked on Capital One and we needed 63,000 miles each. So even thought we are getting two miles for every dollar spent with Capital One it's not a good deal.

At 1.25 miles per dollar, the card looks good on the surface, but miles required per trip are based on trip cost. What would normally cost 25,000 -35,000 points for a domestic flight now would only allow $250 -$350 dollars per ticket. Hard to find a flight for that low a price..

But.....all travel is relevant, such as a car rental, hotel, gas, concerts, events, etc. so it isn't limited to just th airfare. If you book early enough usually lower fares are available.

capital one cards are the best bang for your buck their customer service is very good there interest rates are fair compared to most others on the market there rewards program is very good by far the best rewards program that i have ever used hands down the only real drawback is that you do need fairly good credit to be approved so if your credit is just ok you can give it a try but you probably wont get accepted so long story short i would 100% reccomend this card to people with good credit

Love to travel and with no annual fee, and no black out dates, this is the best card for me. I appreciate the fact that the points to apply to any airline and any hotel. Also any rental car company. So many cards now are limited to specific companies. Finally, one stop shop. I'm really going to enjoy having this card and reaping the benefits. Also no annual fee, that's fantastic! No foreign transaction fee is also very important for a travel card. Must have! Well done, Venture Card.

Capital One is the best card for international travel since it doesn't charge foreign transaction fees.I had a Capital One miles card for several years and recenty received an offer to upgrade to either the Venture or VentureOne cards. I opted for the VentureOne as it doesn't have an annual fee. I split my purchases between multiple cards so my yearly consuption doesn't make up the difference in points that it would take to cover the annual fee. Only very heavy users of the card will be better off with the Venture card with annual fee. I think Capital One treats their customers better than other issuers.

I would like to make it short and super sweet. I have been excellent and most value customer for WAMU until Chase took over WAMU. Eventually, I had to cancel my Bxxx Sxxx business and personal Chase credit cards due to unreasonable APR increased. Capital One is the only company that treats their value customers fairly during this recessions time. They did not increase APR a single % on my existing card. Since I have excellent credit I took the Venture One card and enjoy using it local and oversea. LOVE IT.

Capital One does not allow you to download more than 3 months history in Excel format. While you can easily do this in Chase. Allowing you to sort all charges and see how much you spent on one Rest. or one Airline etc.

Called about lowering my APR which is 13%. Ihave been a long time customer who has used their card for lots of charges and I know that I have a very good credit rating. They offered me a 9% for six months,so I took it, but will request better than that or will acquire another one else where. Did not answer their recomendations

The Capital One Venture card provides you with a pretty good interest rate as well as the easiest way to get Miles for any type of adventure, be it a day trip or a week long excursion. Being that it is a VISA card it is accepted anywhere, and you get 1.25 miles for any purchase, not just certain ones that the company stipulates. All in all, with an attractive APR and the ability to rack up rewards even if you buy a cup of coffee, this card is one of the better credit cards for world travelers and day trippers alike.

There are no annual fee and the rewards of unlimited 1.25 makes the card the worth and I also like the bonus of 20000 miles worth $200. And the more benefit feature is free credit tracker!

This was one of the first credit cards I had ever had. I have been very pleased with it. No annual fee, great customer service and reward points that you can use for more than just airline tickets.
