This robust travel rewards card unlocks opportunity with transferable rewards points in this airline’s frequent flyer program: LifeMiles. The ability to transfer credit card points from Marriott Bonvoy, American Express, Capital One and Citi ThankYou Rewards into the LifeMiles program increases traveler’s ability to quickly combine points for maximum travel rewards.

Founded in 1919, Avianca is headquartered in Columbia. With over 108 destinations, Avianca is one of the premier Latin America carriers. This is the high-end offering in the Avianca credit card line. Avianca Vuela Visa® Cardstands out from other travel credit cards with an easy to earn sign-up bonus. Earn 40,000 Bonus LifeMiles after first card use. You could buy a cup of coffee and earn that bonus. Really. Other travel cards require spend amounts as high as $3,000 in order to earn the sign-up bonus.

After that, your APR will be 14.74% to 27.74%.. That is a rare offering on a travel credit card and could save you hundreds of dollars in high interest charges.

This first-class card comes with a full suite of valuable travel perks including a 50% discount on an award ticket redeemed for travel to Central America or Colombia from the United States after $12,000 spent each year, free additional checked bag for travel between the U.S. and Central America. Other features include no foreign transaction fees, travel accident insurance and auto rental collision damage waiver.

The LifeMiles frequent flyer program is part of the robust Star Alliance, which enables LifeMiles members to earn and redeem miles on member airlines’ flights to over 1,250 destinations across the world. As of January 2020 there are 25 airlines in that alliance, including United, Lufthansa, CopaAirlines, Air Canada, Air China, Air New Zealand in the alliance. With Star Alliance you can redeem your points for a flight or upgrade no matter what frequent flyer program you earned them through.

The Bottom Line

This card is worthy of consideration for any travel credit card enthusiast. The ability to earn bonus miles on gas stations and grocery stores allows you to pump up earnings rewards with everyday spending. The ability to transfer points and redeem for Star Alliance member flights increases the immediate value of this rewards program.

The Good

Easy to earn sign-up bonus and the ability to earn bonus miles on everyday spending like gas and groceries. You can save money when you use this card internationally with no foreign transaction fees.

The Not so Good

If you don’t want to pay the annual fee consider the Avianca Vida Visa® Card which has a lower annual cost, but also a lower sign-up bonus and rewards rate.
