Those who qualify for the The Platinum Card® from American Express enjoy a number of elite features and personalized services. There is no preset spending limit on the card and you earn a reward point for every dollar spent. The amount you can spend adapts based on factors such as your purchase, payment and credit history. There are no blackout dates or seating restrictions when you book for travel, and your points don’t expire. You can transfer points to frequent flier programs or even donate them to charity. Cardholders get free access to airline VIP lounges and the card carries no foreign transaction fees.
Although there is a membership fee, it could be offset depending on the perks you use, cash credits, and special deals you could get just for using the card at hotels, resorts, and airlines. You receive airline fee credits each year for incidental fees purchased from your designated airline, plus annual savings with Uber.
Cardholders will also enjoy complimentary benefits for luxury hotel stays booked through American Express Travel. Meanwhile you are able to earn 5X Membership Rewards® points on flights booked directly with airlines or with American Express Travel on up to $500,000 on these purchases per calendar year and 5X Membership Rewards® points on prepaid hotels booked with American Express Travel. The Bottom Line
The American Express Platinum card offers a number of features, benefits, and 5-star amenities. Depending on card usage, you could rack up hundreds of dollars worth of VIP perks, credits, and discounts at select hotels, airlines, and other merchants.
The Good
Cardholders can Earn 80,000 Membership Rewards® Points after you spend $6,000 on purchases on the Card in your first 6 months of Card Membership. You earn one point for every dollar spent, and the card has no preset spending limit. The amount you can spend adapts based on factors such as your purchase, payment and credit history. Travel rewards don’t expire and are good on any airline with no seat restrictions or blackout dates. The amenities for cardholders are numerous and top notch.
The Not so Good
You must pay off your balance in full every month, and there is a $695 annual fee.
