Capital One’s Venture line of travel cards has earned a name for itself, and rightly so: the entire suite of Venture cards generally provides great rewards programs coupled with fees that are easy-to-stomach. The only thing the Capital One was missing was a card targeted squarely at the premium market…until now that is, with the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card.
The Venture X card comes off the block strong with a top-shelf rewards rate that could potentially post miles earnings in the double-digits: 2 Miles per dollar on every purchase, every day; 10 Miles per dollar on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel; 5 Miles per dollar on flights booked through Capital One Travel, with an additional 10,000 bonus miles rewarded every year, starting at the first anniversary. This is a program that’s pretty fairly matched with other exclusive travel cards, especially when you consider the additional benefits on offer here like a yearly credit for TSA PreCheck® or Global Entry up to $100 and unlimited complimentary access to Capital One Lounges and a Partner Lounge Network.
The commonalities with other premium travel cards don’t just stop at the rewards though, and that’s where we have to talk about the proverbial elephant in the room: the annual fee. The Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card’s annual fee comes in at a blistering $395; one saving grace is that this is on-par with its direct competitors, so you won’t be facing a fee that out of proportion with this card’s benefits.
And that’s an important point to make: between the outstanding miles multiplier available on the Venture X, the Global Entry or PreCheck® credit and the yearly anniversary reward, you’re looking at a card that, more or less, pays for itself with frequent use. The annual fee can be positively frightening with these top-shelf travel cards, but taking a closer look at the numbers reveals a card that’s more than worth the price of admission in our eyes. All in all, this is a sterling new entry in the premium travel cards space – if you’re on the hunt for an amazing new travel card, don’t miss this one.
Expert Reviews of the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card
The Bottom Line
If you’re looking for a premier travel card experience, the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card is certainly worthy of your attention. Plus, it’s liable to only get more attractive to potential cardholders as time goes on and more features are added.
The Good
This card’s amazing rewards program and solid welcome offer show Capital One means business when it comes to staying competitive in the travel space.
The Not so Good
$395 is a lot to ask for an annual fee even with all the benefits on offer here, and this card is missing some of the additional features we see from more mature premium travel cards.
