For cardholders looking to build credit without plunking down a security deposit, the Reflex Mastercard® is a reasonable — though pricey — option. The card, which touts an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau, reports to all three major credit bureaus and offers a potential credit limit increase after six months of timely payments.
If you're a consumer with a low credit score set on having an unsecured credit card, it won't hurt to see if you can prequalify for an affordable offer with the Reflex Mastercard®. But, be sure to read the fine print carefully.
The Reflex Mastercard® is open to applicants with all types of credit and lets you prequalify in seconds with no impact to your credit score. There's no security deposit required for most applicants, and you'll start off with a decent credit limit — between $300 and $750. The card helps you build credit by reporting your timely payments to the three major credit bureaus and offering a chance to boost your credit line in as little as six months. It also gives you $0 liability for fraudulent charges and free access to your Vantage 3.0 score from Transunion.
Before you commit to the Reflex Mastercard®, you should carefully scan the conditions of your offer. The card comes with a lot of fees, and you won't know what the fees will be until you prequalify. The card charges an annual fee between $75.00 - $99.00, as well as a maintenance fee up to $10 per month. In other words, you could wind up paying up to $219 per year in fees. You'll also pay a $30 fee to add an authorized user to the card. Furthermore, the card's APR — which ranges from 25.90% - 29.99% — is extremely high, even for a card geared toward consumers with low credit scores. Also, look carefully at the fine print — the terms state that a security deposit may be required, so you could potentially qualify for an offer that requires a deposit in addition to all the fees.
