For consumers who are trying to establish their credit history for the first time, or trying to rebuild their credit, the Citi® Secured Mastercard®, from our partner Citi, is an excellent option. With this credit card, customers must submit a security deposit ($200 minimum) to get approved, and they receive a card with a line of credit equal to the amount they deposit.
As cardholders get used to using a credit card, benefits like AutoPay, Online Bill Pay, and account alerts will help them make sure they’re starting on the right foot by always paying their bills on time. Unlike prepaid cards, your account activity on the Citi® Secured Mastercard® will report to the credit bureaus and help you build credit if you use it responsibly.
This card also comes with no annual fee. The ongoing APR of 24.74%* (Variable) is pretty high, but it’s actually not bad compared to other credit cards for people with low credit scores. Also, you can avoid interest charges all together if you pay your balance off in full each month.
The ongoing APR of 24.74%* (Variable) is relatively low compared to other cards secured cards. Consumers have to start somewhere with building credit, and the Citi Secured Mastercard is a great option because it does not have an annual fee.
This is one of the few cards that is available to people who may have limited credit and can be a great tool for building a good credit history. Also, setting up AutoPay can help ensure that you never miss a payment.
Since it's a secured card, you have to put down a security deposit to get approved. Also, there's no rewards program with this card, but that's usually the case for secured cards.
