Expert Reviews

From the CompareCards.com Editorial Team

The Capital One Venture Rewards card is a really exceptional piece of plastic for those who want to earn some fast and flexible travel rewards.

Not only that, but you can redeem miles for virtually any kind of travel related expense and there are no limitations on how many miles you can rack up and your accumulated miles never expire. You can earn 40,000 bonus miles if you spend at least $3,000 during the first three months of card membership, too, and for those who travel overseas there are no pesky foreign transaction fees.

This card is for people with excellent/good credit, however, and there is a $59 annual membership fee, which is waived the first year. The standard APR falls into the reasonable range of 13.24%-23.24% (Variable), depending on your credit worthiness.

The Bottom Line

This is a really good travel rewards card for the frequent traveler. You can earn many miles and use them in many different ways with no expiration dates or hidden fees.

The Good

Your miles will not expire, there's no cap on how many miles you can earn, and you can redeem them for all sorts of travel products and services such as flights, hotels, and car rentals.

The Not so Good

Your credit has to be excellent/good and there is a $59 annual fee after the first year of membership.

I went through the site to check balances and make payments, and found it self explanatory. Fast and easy I love my card and I told my friends all about it. I love how easy it is to keep track of my credit score and the alerts I can set up so I get notification every time my card is used.

This card has gotten us 3 free cruises so far. We pay almost all bills on this card and rack up a lot every month. My card is paid off every month 5k-12k. Love the free Cruises!

Last year my wife made a trip to Japan and we purchased her ticket almost completely with miles from our Venture card. Best 60 dollars a year I've ever spent.

I wanted one card for my everyday spender that was easy to use and didn't require a lot of maintenance on my end. As a moderate traveler, I found the Venture card to be a perfect match. For those who don't completely understand how this card works, it's best to think of it as a 2% cashback card. For every dollar you spend, you accumulate 2 miles (points) which can be redeemed on any travel related purchase (hotel, flight, cab, etc...) in the form of travel credit. The redemption process is pretty easy. Just click on your miles, select any applicable travel related purchase in the past 90 days, and redeem as many points as you want which usually is reflected on your balance 2-3 days. One of the best parts of this card that many people don't realize is the lack of foreign transaction fees. This is a huge benefit that isn't very common. I usually take 1-2 international trips a year and those fees can add up. I love this card because it's just easy to use. Visa is widely accepted. The points are unlimited. There are no weird catches when it comes to redeeming them (as long as it's travel which is the whole point of the card). Lastly, they offer pretty generous credit limits which is nice for using it as my daily spender. I treat my Venture card like cash so I don't really care about the interest rate. However, I would NOT recommend using this card if you plan to carry a balance at all. That's just not the point of the card and there are many better options out there if you are simply looking to make large purchases. Hope that helps!

The real question is what is the value of each points? even though you get 2 pts for every dollar spent but does those points buy you more?.. You could have amass a bunch of reward points but they can be worth half the purchasing value of other CC reward programs.. Can you comment.. thanks

Each point is worth $.01 (one cent) when used for travel related purchases. Basically, you have the option of redeeming miles (points) on any travel purchases (hotel, flight, cab, etc...) in the form of statement credit. You can also redeem miles for traditional cash back, though the rate is then cut in half. Basically, it's best to think of the Venture card as a 2% restricted (travel related) cashback card.

Does this card allow balance transfers, and if so are mile added for the transfer? If miles are added, what rate are they added at ie(2x per Dollar)

So, can you put your house mortgage on this card? That would be the bomb since you pay that every month!

Anyone find a way to get out of the $59 annual fee?

By: Kathy Morton | Apr 27, 2016

No annual fee = 1.25 miles per dollar spent. $59 annual fee = 2.00 miles per dollar spent. 6 of one half dozen of another. I personally like this particular card.

so far..the experience has been great, Capital One is a great lender, the "Venture " card is really simple..2 pts for every dollar spent and this is accurate as I check my account often online. Also, I just recently received my bonus of 40000 miles and I cant wait to see how many more I will have in the next 12 months. Venture card is Visa Signature so it can be used for nearly everything. I recommend the card.

We pay it off monthly, our choice... The rewards are fantastic. Over a few years we put everything on the card... paid for a trip to the Big Apple, airfare, lodging and shows. No Blackouts, you pick the travel you want to use the rewards against or cash it in for cash or gifts. Either way one of the better programs I've ever been associated with. Keep up the good work and thank you for initiating this concept... sure helped us a lot to keep commitments to people. and it is absolutely painless... simple to use and no questions asked, except for "how can we help"... what more can you ask????? I support and brag about our VENTURE card to anyone who will listen...

This is the most rewarding card if you ask me. They have no blackouts on flights, require less points for flights, and you earn double miles on a ton of stuff. I think the interest rates are a little high on this card though. If you like Capital One I recommend the IHG Rewards Card instead. You get one free hotel night every year no matter what which can come in handy.
