Expert Reviews

From the CompareCards.com Editorial Team

The Chase Freedom Card offers a $100 bonus cash back to new card members after spending at least $500 on purchases with the card during the first three months from account opening. Cardholders can also earn a $25 Bonus after you add your first authorized user and make a purchase within the same 3-month period.

As far as the standard mechanics of the card go, there are also other generous benefits. While there are ways to get up to 5% cash back on some types or categories of purchases, you can earn a reliably steady 1% cash back on virtually everything you pay for with Chase Freedom.

Addtionally, card holders receive 0% for 15 months on balance transfers and purchases. There is no annual fee and depending on your credit, you’ll get a decent APR between 13.99% and 22.99% variable.

The Bottom Line

This card rewards you for spending, both with cash bonuses as well as with chances to rack up rewards as high as 5%. There is no annual fee and although there are a few restrictions regarding special offers, they are pretty easy to comply with.

The Good

If you pay attention to the quarterly categories that qualify for 5% cash back you can maximize your rewards. Meanwhile, you can earn a $100 bonus cash back + a $25 Bonus by spending $500 on the card in the first 3 months, and by adding an authorized user and making a purchase in the same 3-month period.

The Not so Good

You can only get the 5% cash back in special categories that change quarterly, and you are limited to a $1,500 cap each quarter on 5% categories.

I have a Chase Visa, B of A Visa, and AmX all cash back. It's web site is very easy to navigate. Unlike many other cards, the promotions very by quarter paying 5% up to $1500/Q or $75. My favorite promo is 4thQ Amazon. Sweet deal ! If you spend a ton on gas, the other cards paying 2 and 3% are better.

I love this card with it's rewards I use for online purchases for Christmas. I usually save up all year. It has the lowest interest rate on all my cards hands down, although I pay the balance off each month,so that's not really an issue. Card is widely accepted and had no problems using it anywhere I wish. Great card and no annual fees.

I had this card for 10 years until 12/30/2014 when I disputed a charge on the bill, the customer manager told "If everyone like you we will very busy." Then I said close my account, she said "Fine" without thinking. AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!

Chase freedom is the first unsecured card that we got. The best thing about the card is cash ban redeemed for any amount. I used to love it when they used to select the 5% category automatically to those which were most spent on by me for that month. These days though it is same boring quarterly categories like other credit cards. It is sad that they are also stopping the 10% bonus points for having checking account. This has certainly made this card from the most favorite to the least these days.

this card is very sneaky and tricky. I took a cash advance out in 2010 for 42.00 and am still paying the 27.24% on that then 27.24% again on purchases . my 200.00 payments only lowered the principal 80.00. They want me to stay but Its time to just leave when even the supervisor says it can't be lowered. We had a great 13 years 54.48% APR is just a tad silly.

I have had this card for years and I love it. I use my points to get gift cards to buy my kids' clothes, since I need to change their wardrobe every 6 months. Their reward program is very easy to understand and the extra 5% for certain categories usually has at least 1 category I will use--like gas. I also recently had my credit card number stolen and they were the ones who alerted me. They sent me a new card immediately and they reversed all of the fraudulent charges without any issues. Excellent rewards program and excellent customer service. I recommend this card to people I know in real life all the time.

This card is great. I'm able to utilize cash back features and link it with my debit account, making over draft fees a thing of the past. Making money while spending it is also a nice plus when i take into account the interest rate for purchases. i'm able to use the cash back to help pay the interest when i happen to be late. win/win, am i right guys? up top.

I love my chase freedom card. It has real rewards associated with it. I get one percent back on everything and five percent back on the selected categories for the quarter. Plus in the summer when you are traveling a lot, the selected category is almost always gas stations. That means big rewards. I always opt for the cash reward when I hit about $100. It is really easy, they just credit it to my next statement. Customer service is good too. I destroyed my card once - two days before leaving on vacation- and they overnighted me a new card! Someone store my card number once and they immediately called me, reversed the charges and sent me a new card with a new number. I highly recommend this card!

The card is great for consumers like myself seeking to maximize their rebates. With the Chase freedom card the perks are similar in that with certain categories you get a certain percent back ( aka every 3 months you receive 5% back in a category) but the VISA logo is accept virtually everywhere. That means I can literally use my card everywhere except when I'm buying lemonade from little Suzy's Lemonade Stand. Or can I? I don't know. Kids now a days are pretty creative. Bottom line, the Chase Freedom card is a great for my family because it's widely accepted and as long as I pay of my balance each month, I won't accrue interest and my rebate will check will get bigger! Note: In order for any rewards card to make sense, the balance must be paid of each month otherwise, this would be a crapy card for those consumers with balances. Did you see the fine print? The interest is 12.99- 22.99%! Anywho, good card for my situation.

I really liked the intro APR and the standard rate is one of the lowest which is great, but I've been having trouble with the rewards program for months. Although this card does offer several opportunities to earn more than 1% on rewards, I haven't be receiving the rewards that that card told me I would even though I am using it to their regulations. I have reported this issue to customer service months ago and they STILL haven't given me my earned rewards or corrected the issue. The card sounds great if their program actually works!

Caution: When it says gas stations, that is exactly what it means. If you buy gas at a store that sells groceries you may not get your 5% reward if your receipt does not specify gas station.

watch this card carefully I got a cash ahvance of $42.00 on 7/22/10 and am STILL paying for it. Even though I paid down my balance down to $187.38 the customer service better help lower my APR Or I am history paying 27.24% on purchases and another 27.24% for that 42.00 which is at 107.60 just this year. and I just paid the jerks $4751.68

I've had a Chase Freedom Visa for around 7 or 8 years now, I believe. It has a nice 1% cashback program where I get the 1% on all my purchases. I like the auto-pay option (where my checking account is automatically drafted each month for the balance due). The one time I got a fraudulent charge on my card Chase's customer service handled the situation very quickly and the charge was taken off my account. I've been very satisfied with Chase and can recommend their card.

This is a great card that has new rewards categories every quarter, I would highly recommend. Their website is easy to use as well.
