The American Express Premium Rewards Gold Card is specifically designed for those who routinely charge purchases and enjoy their membership rewards benefits. The card offers triple points on airfare purchases, double points on gas and groceries and one point per net dollar spent on everything else. There is no limit on how many points you can earn, the points do not have an expiration date, and Membership Rewards Points can be redeemed for shopping, dining and entertainment rewards.

15,000 Membership Rewards® bonus points are offered to those who spend at least $1,000 during their first three months of membership and 15,000 bonus points are awarded to those who spend at least $30,000 a year.

Membership Rewards can be used on any airline with no seat restrictions or blackout dates or to book hotels, cruises and vacation packages – while you can still earn from your own frequent flyer and guest rewards programs as applicable. Points can also be redeemed for rewards from participating retailers.

The American Express® Premier Rewards Gold Card also provides cardholders with a Fraud Protection Guarantee, Return Protection, Extended Warranty, and Purchase Protection and Emergency Card Replacement services. American Express Travel Service is also available and includes features such as a Baggage Insurance Plan, Emergency Check-In, Assured Reservations, Car Rental Loss and Damage Insurance, and Travel Accident Insurance.  The Gold Card status also offers certain privileges such as travel packages, pre-sale tickets, upgrades, and other benefits.

The card offers a much faster way to earn rewards points on purchases, but after the first year the annual fee is quite steep.

The Good
