Those who appreciate Wal-Mart for its convenience, variety of inventory, and low prices may be in the market for the Walmart Credit Card – which is an in-store charge card.

The Bottom Line

In-store charge cards lack the options of a full-fledged credit card, and the APR on this card is much too high for carrying a balance. Most consumers would be better off with a different, more flexible and affordable card. But for Walmart fans it does offers some nice benefits such as gasoline discounts.

The Good

There is no annual fee, and there may be a sign-up bonus.
Save 5¢ per gallon every day at participating Walmart Gas stations.
With eligible purchases you can also qualify for in-store financing – for as long as 24 months.
Walmart Credit Card accounts that sign up for electronic statements may also enroll to receive their monthly FICO score for free.

The Not So Good

The 24.65% APR is extremely high so you don’t want to carry a balance with this card because it will cost you much more than the rate you could potentially find on a different card or from a traditional bank loan.
The card is not a full-fledged credit card that can be used for transactions outside of Walmart, but it is instead a charge account that can be used for Walmart purchases.
