The Bottom Line

The best reason to carry this card is for the robust cash back rewards for gasoline purchases. If you shop at Sam’s Club and buy gasoline or do a lot of dining and traveling, this card offers rather generous opportunities to earn cash back rewards, but with some restrictions.

The Good

There is no annual fee and you can earn 5% cash back on gasoline purchases, 3% back on dining and travel purchases, and 1% back on everything else.

The Not So Good

Your ability to earn 5% cash back on gasoline is limited to purchases of $6,000 per year. If you buy more gasoline than that then purchases over that $6,000 cap earn only 1% cash back for the rest of that year. A maximum of $5,000 in Cash Back rewards can be earned in a calendar year. Cash back checks are only issued each February for the cash back earned during the previous calendar year, and after 180 days the checks become invalid so be sure to cash it in a timely fashion.
The APR for purchases is either 15.15% or 23.15% and the APR for cash advances is 20.15% or 26.15%, depending upon your credit worthiness. Unless you have excellent credit, this means that your APR rates may be rather steep and make it expensive to carry a balance on the card. There is also a surcharge on cash advances of $5 or 3% of the transaction, whichever is greater. While that is common with many credit cards, it can make cash advances more costly – so cardholders should keep that in mind.
