Expert Reviews

From the Editorial Team

The term “carte blanche” usually means a blank check and complete freedom. This card hints at that with its sweet membership perks, but unfortunately comes at a pretty steep price.

The Bottom Line

Since you cannot carry a balance and have to pay a huge membership fee, the benefits of this card may be outweighed by its cost. That makes it less attractive to the typical credit card consumer.

The Good

You earn one point per dollar spent, and can redeem points for such things as merchandise or travel. Awards accrued can be redeemed for airfare, for instance, without blackout dates or restrictions, and there is no limit on how many points you can earn.
You also have membership benefits and perks such as free, unlimited international cell phone rentals in more than 140 countries and private jet access through Bombardier Skyjet. Other amenities included a personal assistance concierge service, airport lounge access, and auto rental discounts – plus travel, luggage, and purchase insurance or warranty coverage and roadside auto assistance.

The Not So Good

There is a $300 annual fee and a 3% foreign transaction fee. If you take a cash advance there is a surcharge of $4 or 4% of the amount of the advance, whichever is greater. All charges to the card are due each billing period, so you cannot carry a balance on this plastic.
