Wyndham Hotels doesn’t have the most well known hotel loyalty program, but Wyndham Rewards® is not one you want to ignore. The most unique feature of the program is that all award nights at every Wyndham hotel cost the same number of points — just 15,000! This offers incredible value in cities that are otherwise very expensive in points and cash.

What hotels can you book with Wyndham points?

All participating Wyndham group brands can be booked with Wyndham points. These hotels include: Baymont Inn & Suites, Days Inn, Dolce Hotels and Resorts, Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham, Howard Johnson, Knights Inn, Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham, Ramada, Super 8, Travelodge, TRYP, Wingate by Wyndham, Wyndham Garden, Wyndham Grand Collection, Wyndham Hotels and Resorts.

How many points does a free night cost?

This is what makes Wyndham’s program special: all free nights cost 15,000 points (“Go Free”) for a standard room, with the added option of a points + cash option (“Go Fast”), for some properties at 3,000 points + a variable amount of cash. Not all hotels participate in Go Fast rewards. The cash portion is dependent on the hotel.

As a base-level Blue member, you also get a $5 credit to redeem in the form of a discount on local attractions when redeeming points for a “Go Free” or “Go Fast” night in participating cities.

How much does an upgrade cost?

You can’t use Wyndham points for an upgrade.

Good deal redemptions

Since the program has a unique model of 15,000 point for a free night at any property, every expensive hotel is a basically a good deal when redeeming points. Similarly, every cheap Super 8 is a bad deal.

A few properties that definitely stand out as great deals include:

The Wyndham Grand Chicago Riverfront

TRYP New York City Times Square

TRYP Paris Opéra

The Donatello in San Francisco

The Wyndham Suites Sydney in Australia

These hotels are good deals because they are in relatively expensive locations. Since all of Wyndham’s properties cost 15,000 points per night, it is best to redeem points in places where cash rates are relatively high. For example: the TRYP New York City Times Square hotel can easily cost over $300 per night but a Wyndham property in Cleveland, Ohio might only cost $100 per night. Both of these properties cost 15,000 points per night.

Wyndham all-inclusives are also a good choice for redeeming your Wyndham points. These hotels still cost only 15,000 points per night, inclusive of lodging and food! Some of our favorites include:

Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach Resort, Bahamas

Viva Wyndham Dominicus Beach Resort, Dominican Republic

Viva Wyndham Dominicus Palace, Dominican Republic

Viva Wyndham Tangerine, Dominican Republic

Viva Wyndham Azteca, Playa Del Carmen, Mexico

Wyndham all-inclusives cover two people when booking with points. Beyond the two included people, there are additional fees the vary based on the property. Adults are considered as age 13 and older whereas children between 3 and 12 have a lower fee. The additional fee for children is usually between $20 and $35 per child, per night.

Can you turn Wyndham points into airline miles?

Yes: you can convert Wyndham points into airline miles, with a minimum of 6,000 points. However, the rate of 5 Wyndham points for 1 airline mile (6,000 Wyndham points = 1,200 airline miles) is quite bad, especially considering how valuable Wyndham points can be.

The current transfer partners include:

  • Air Canada Aeroplan
  • American Airlines AAdvantage®
  • Amtrak Guest Rewards
  • Avianca LifeMiles
  • Frontier EarlyReturns
  • Hawaiian Airlines HawaiianMiles
  • United MileagePlus®
  • Aeromexico Club Premier
  • Czech Airlines OK Plus
  • Jet Airways JetPrivilege
  • PAYBACK Points
  • Qatar Airways Privilege Club
  • Saudia Airlines Alfursan
  • Air China PhoenixMiles
  • China Eastern Eastern Kilometers
  • China Southern Sky Pearl Club
  • Fortune Wings Club

What are Wyndham points worth?

The value of Wyndham points varies depending on how you use them, but it should be easy to find properties where you can get 1.2 cents per point or more in value.

Can you share points?

You can buy or gift points at a rate of $11 per 1,000 points, with a maximum of 5,000 points per year.

Can you book reward nights for someone else?

A better deal is to use points towards award nights for another person with your points online or by phone. To find out more about booking reward nights for others, check out our full guide.

How do you earn points?

When you stay at Wyndham hotels, you earn 10 points per dollar, no matter your elite status, with a minimum of 1,000 points per stay. You can also earn Wyndham points via one of the two credit cards issued by Barclays (more on this later).

What stays qualify to earn points?

Points are earned for dollars spent on room rate only. Qualified Stays (even at non-Wyndham properties) must be booked through the Wyndham website or phone number, and don’t include 3rd party online travel agencies (like Expedia or Orbitz). You will only earn points and elite status nights for qualified stays. Additionally, if you have status, your status will only be recognized for qualified stays.

If you want to book multiple rooms for a single night stay, note that only the room where the Wyndham member is staying is eligible to earn points. The other rooms are considered non-qualified stays.

What is the cancellation policy?

Award nights cancellation policy can vary by hotel, but you can usually cancel up to 1 day before arrival. If you do not cancel by the deadline, you will forfeit your points.

Do Wyndham points expire?

Yes: Wyndham Rewards® points expire 4 years after being posted to an account, unless the points are forfeited or canceled earlier due to membership inactivity: all accrued points in a Wyndham Rewards® account may be canceled or forfeited if the member has no account activity for a period of 18 consecutive months. Both earning points and redeeming points counts as qualifying account activity.

What cards earn Wyndham points?

Barclays issues two Wyndham Rewards® Visa cards:

  • Wyndham Rewards® Visa Card: a $0 annual fee card, that earns 3 points per $1 spent on eligible purchases for every participating hotel stay, 2 points per $1 spent on gas, utility and grocery store purchases, and 1 point per $1 spent on purchases everywhere else. Terms apply.
  • Wyndham Rewards® Visa Signature Card: a $75 annual fee card that earns 5 points per $1 spent on eligible purchases for every participating hotel stay, 2 points per $1 spent on gas, utility and grocery store purchases, and 1 point per $1 spent on purchases everywhere else, plus a 6,000-point annual bonus.

The Wyndham Rewards® Visa Signature Card is a great option for someone who needs the occasional random hotel night in an expensive city. After two years having the card, you’ll have earned almost enough points for an award night at any Wyndham property from the 6,000 annual point bonus alone. Granted, you will have paid the annual fee for two years ($150 total) in order to earn these points, so you’ll want to make sure that the hotel you redeem them at is worth more than that.

If that doesn’t sound like you, they Wyndham cards really aren’t the greatest cards out there unless you stay frequently at Wyndham hotels and don’t have another credit card that offers better earning for hotels.

How can you earn Gold status?

You only need to stay 5 nights per year at Wyndham group properties or have the no annual fee Wyndham Rewards® Visa Card in order to earn Gold status.

What are the benefits of Gold status?

Gold benefits are limited:

  • preferred rooms (no upgrades)
  • dedicated phone line
  • late check-out
  • $10 credit to redeem on local attractions when redeeming points for a “Go Free” night in participating cities, or a $5 credit to redeem on these attractions when using a “Go Fast” award.

How can you earn Platinum status?

You need to stay 15 nights per year at Wyndham group properties or have the Wyndham Rewards® Visa Signature Card (the one with a $75 annual fee) in order to earn Platinum status.

What are the benefits of Platinum status?

The benefits of Platinum status are more substantial than the benefits of Gold status:

  • All benefits received by Gold members
  • 3,000-point bonus every year
  • early check-in
  • car upgrade at Avis and Budget
  • $10 credit to redeem on local attractions when redeeming points for a “Go Free” night in participating cities, or a $5 credit to redeem on these attractions when using a “Go Fast” award.

How can you earn Diamond status?

You need to stay 40 nights per year at Wyndham group properties in order to earn Diamond status. Diamond members get Platinum benefits with a 6,000-point bonus every year (instead of 3,000), suite upgrades, a welcome amenity (snack or beverage), and can give gold status to a friend. You also get 2 free passes to local attractions when redeeming points for a “Go Free” night in participating cities, or a $10 credit to redeem on these attractions when using a “Go Fast” award.
