Wyndham Hotels & Resorts became the latest chain to revamp its loyalty program on April 4, 2019. While its Wyndham Rewards® isn’t the most popular loyalty program, it was known for having a flat room redemption rate of 15,000 a night, which covered everything from the budget Super 8 hotel to the luxury Trademark Collection at its approximately 9,200 hotels across more than 80 countries on six continents.
Now, however, the Wyndham Rewards’ redemption chart offers three tiers of redemption — 7,500, 15,000 and 30,000 points per night. This could be a good or bad thing, depending on the hotel brand you book. The good news is that you can now redeem Wyndham Rewards points at more than 30,000 hotels, as well as vacation club resorts and vacation rentals, along with nearly 1,000 La Quinta properties. The bad news: You’ll be paying double the points (30,000) for Wyndham’s top properties.
Nearly 3,000 hotels are now under the more affordable 7,500-point tier. Approximately 200 properties moved into the 30,000-point tier, while the remaining 6,000 hotels remain at the 15,000-point tier.
Below we take a fresh look at the entire Wyndham Rewards loyalty program, as well as sample hotels you can book under the new three-tier system.

How do you earn points?
When you stay at Wyndham hotels, you earn 10 points per dollar or 1,000 points — whichever is more. You can also earn Wyndham points via its credit cards, shopping, buying Marathon Gas, DoorDash® food delivery and Avis® and Budget® car rentals.
What stays qualify to earn points?
Points are earned for dollars spent on room rates only. Qualified stays must be booked through the Wyndham website or phone number and don’t include third-party online travel agencies, like Expedia or Orbitz. You will only earn points and elite status nights for qualified stays. Additionally, if you have status, your status will only be recognized for qualified stays.
What is the cancellation policy?
If you cancel your reward booking in accordance with the hotel’s cancellation policy, your points will automatically be returned to your account. If a booking is canceled outside of the hotel’s cancellation policy, your points will be forfeited.
Do Wyndham points expire?
Wyndham Rewards points expire four years after being posted to an account unless they are forfeited or canceled due to membership inactivity. All accrued points in a Wyndham Rewards account may be canceled or forfeited if the member has no account activity for 18 consecutive months. Both earning and redeeming points count as qualifying account activity.

The bottom line
Deals are still available under the three-tier system, depending on where and when you want to go, along with the hotel brand you choose. Get the biggest bang for your points buck by using them at all-inclusive Viva Wyndham resorts since they cover two people and include all food and beverages. The lower 7,500-point hotels tend to be budget properties such as Microtel and Super 8, although you can find rooms at brands including Bayside, Ramada and Days Inn.
However, the vast majority of Wyndham properties still remain in the 15,000 points category, which is good news for guests. Plus, Wyndham Rewards points can now be redeemed at more than 20,000 vacation club resorts and vacation rentals.
Wyndham Rewards members are still getting pretty good deals even with the changes. The majority of the chain’s hotels still cost 15,000 points a night, plus there’s now access to vacation resorts and rental homes. If you’re a loyalty program member, these changes get the thumbs up.
