A popular segment of the credit card market are ones that allow you to earn bonus cashback rewards in rotating quarterly categories. The U.S. Bank Cash+™ Visa Signature® Card puts a twist on this concept in two ways.

First, cardmembers are allowed to choose two categories they want for 5% bonus cashback rewards. Second, you can choose to get another 2% in cash back rewards on one everyday category, like gas, grocery stores or restaurants.

The U.S. Bank Cash+™ Visa Signature® Card offers 5% cash back on your first $2,000 in combined eligible net purchases each quarter on two categories you choose, 2% cash back on one everyday category, like gas or groceries and 1% cash back on all other net purchases. The card also allows new cardmembers to Earn a $150 cash back bonus after making $500 in eligible net purchases within the first 90 days of account opening.

So if you want to get the best value when it comes to getting the most bonus cashback rewards, then the U.S. Bank Cash+™ Visa Signature® Card is the card for you — There is a $0 annual fee.

If you want a different card that offers rotating quarterly bonus cash back, then the Discover it® Cash Back, which also has a $0 annual fee, is another option. But be warned — outside of the bonus quarterly cashback categories, you’re not going to earn as many points per $1 spent with this card.

Where the U.S. Bank Cash+™ Visa Signature® Card stands out in its category

Broad list of cashback categories: The card’s 5% categories are home utilities, ground transportation, select clothing stores, cell phone providers, electronics stores, car rentals, gyms and fitness centers, fast food, sporting goods stores, department stores, furniture stores and movie theaters.

Get reminded. The card allows you to sign up for text and email alerts that will remind you to register for bonus categories every quarter.

Show me the money. Let’s say you choose cell phone providers and fast food as your 5% categories and 2% for your gas category. If you spend $80 a month on your cell bill, $75 a month for fast food and $100 a month on gas, that adds up to $9.75 a month, or $97.75 a year, in cash back on this card.

Visa Signature® perks. Thanks to this card’s Visa Signature® status, it comes with extra benefits including access to Visa Signature® Concierge’s 24/7 help; discounts and upgrades at top hotels, resorts, and cruise lines; special book and music offers; special dining and wine experiences; once-in-a-lifetime sporting events; discounts and special offers at premium retailers; purchase security; extended warranty; auto rental collision damage waiver; roadside dispatch; travel accident insurance; and lost luggage reimbursement.

Where the U.S. Bank Cash+™ Visa Signature® Card falls short in its category

Sign up for bonus categories — or else. If you don’t choose your cashback categories before the start of a quarter, you won’t earn the bonus cashback. Instead, your purchases drop to the lowest cashback amount allowed, 1% on all net purchases.

Limited redemption options. Your cash back can only be redeemed as a statement credit or deposit to a U.S. Bank savings, checking or money market account or as a U.S. Bank Rewards Card, with a $20 minimum redemption.
