Hilton Honors Gold benefits

Gold status is the second-highest elite level with the Hilton Honors loyalty program. When you have Gold status, you’ll enjoy 15 different benefits, including four that are exclusive to Gold (and higher) members. These benefits include:

  • Guaranteed discounts on paid stays
  • 80% bonus points on paid stays (18 points per $1 spent except for Tru & Home2)
  • No resort fees on award nights
  • 5th night free on standard award redemptions
  • Room upgrades to Executive category, pending on space availability
  • Complimentary breakfast at all hotels
  • Unlimited milestone bonuses

How Gold benefits vary across Hilton brands

Unfortunately, the benefits you receive are not provided consistently across all Hilton brands. For example, Tru and Home2 properties only receive 9 points per dollar spent.

Changes in benefits usually revolve around your choice of benefits when Hilton Honors Gold members check in. Depending upon the hotel, you’ll choose between 250 and 1,000 bonus points per stay or snacks and drinks. The food and beverages range from bottles of water and a snack all the way up to complimentary made-to-order breakfast. Visit this page for the latest benefits from each Hilton brand.

You can designate your “MyWay” choice in the Hilton Honors mobile app or in-person when you check-in to your hotel.

How to earn Hilton Honors Gold status

Having one of the credit cards mentioned above isn’t the only way to earn Hilton Honors Gold status. Travelers can earn elite status based on their number of stays, total nights or base points earned each year at Hilton properties.

First of all, sign up for a Hilton Honors loyalty account. Once an account is set up, members earn Hilton Honors Gold status in three ways in a calendar year:

  • 20 stays
  • 40 hotel nights
  • 75,000 Hilton Honors base points earned

Once Gold status is earned, it is valid through the end of the following calendar year.

Receive Gold status through status-matching

If you’ve already earned elite status from another hotel loyalty program, it can make sense to request a status match with Hilton Honors. Loyalty programs value elites and are willing to provide temporary elite status to try to earn your business going forward.

Hilton status matches are only available once per lifetime, so choose wisely when you submit.

To be considered for a status match, submit screenshots of your elite status and account summary from your current hotel loyalty program.

Upon approval, you’ll receive Hilton Honors Gold status for 90 days. Retain your Gold status by staying 10 nights within those 90 days. If you complete eight additional stays (for a total of 18) within the same timeframe, you’ll be upgraded to Diamond status.

How to buy Hilton Honors Gold status

One final option for getting Hilton Honors Gold status is to buy it from FoundersCard. FoundersCard is a membership program that offers enticing benefits, discounts and networking events for about the price of a premium credit card.

When you sign up for FoundersCard and pay the $395 annual fee, you’ll receive automatic Hilton Honors Gold status.

The bottom line

Hilton Honors Gold status provides many perks to improve your hotel experience. Benefits include late checkout, complimentary upgrades and free breakfast. The fastest path to elite status is having the right credit card. Otherwise, you’ll need to earn Gold status the old-fashioned way… over time by paying cash for your hotel rooms.
