Best Synchrony Bank credit card for online purchases: Amazon.com Store Card

If you regularly shop at Amazon.com, the Amazon.com Store Card provides promotional financing, which lets you pay off those purchases over a specified period of time without accruing interest charges.

Cardholders can choose from the following special financing options:

  • Pay no interest on Amazon.com purchases of $150 or more if the entire purchase amount is paid in full within six months.
  • Pay no interest on Amazon.com purchases of $600 or more if the entire purchase amount is paid in full within 12 months.
  • Pay no interest on select Amazon.com purchases of $800 or more if the entire purchase amount is paid in full within 24 months.

Or, you can make equal monthly payments without paying interest:

  • Make equal monthly payments for six months on Amazon.com purchases of $150 or more.
  • Make equal monthly payments for 12 months on Amazon.com purchases of $600 or more.
  • Make equal monthly payments for 24 months on select Amazon.com purchases of $600 or more.

The Amazon.com Store Card comes with a $0 annual fee and offers an instant $10 Amazon.com gift card upon approval. However, the card does not offer rewards for the purchases you make.

That said, if you sign up for Prime membership — which costs $119 per year (or $59 for students) — you will automatically be upgraded to the Amazon Prime Store Card, which offers 5% back at Amazon.com.

What to look out for: The Amazon.com Store Card comes with a high APR of 27.49% variable. Additionally, the card’s special financing options are subject to deferred interest — meaning, you’ll be charged all the interest accrued starting from the purchase date if you continue to carry a balance after the financing period ends.

That’s because — on top of the cashback rewards you’re already earning when shopping at participating merchants through Rakuten — the card offers the following rewards rate: Earn 3% cash back on qualifying purchases made through Rakuten and earn 1% cash back on all other purchases.

So, for example, if you’d normally earn 6% cash back on a purchase from Macy’s through Rakuten, you can earn an additional 3% cash back on that purchase by using your Rakuten Cash Back Visa Signature® Credit Card — for a total of 9% cash back.

Plus, the Rakuten Cash Back Visa Signature® Credit Card lets cardholders earn a earn $10 bonus after the first purchase . As for an annual fee? There is none.

Just know, while the Rakuten Cash Back Visa Signature® Credit Card can be used anywhere Visa is accepted, purchases made outside of Rakuten will only earn the 1% cashback rate.

What to look out for: Cash back rewards are only distributed four times per year in the form of a check or deposit into your PayPal account. Additionally, the Rakuten Cash Back Visa Signature® Credit Card comes with an ongoing APR of 19.99% or 24.99% variable.

As the only airline credit card offered through Synchrony Bank, the Cathay Pacific Visa Signature® card gives cardholders 2 Asia Miles per $1 spent on eligible Cathay Pacific travel and in-flight purchases, 1.5 Asia Miles per $1 spent on dining in the US or abroad and $1 spent on purchases outside the US, and 1 Asia Mile per $1 spent on all other purchases made in the US.

Cardholders also earn 40,000 miles when you spend $3,000 in the first 90 days of opening an account.

Asia miles can be redeemed for flights, hotels, car rentals, travel, gift cards and more. And because Cathay Pacific is a member of the oneworld alliance, you can use Asia Miles on Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, British Airways, Japan Airlines, Qatar Airways and more.

What to look out for: The Cathay Pacific Visa Signature® card charges an annual fee of $95. Additionally, if you carry a balance from month to month on your card, you will be subject to interest charges at an APR of 17.74% or 20.74% variable. However, that’s a pretty typical APR for an airline rewards card.

The Sam's Club Mastercard comes with a $0 annual fee; however, you are required to purchase a Sam’s Club membership, which runs $45 for Select Club and $100 for Select Plus annually.
