If you recently immigrated to the U.S., it may be difficult to be approved for a credit card due to a lack of a U.S. credit history.
In the U.S., your credit history plays a critical role in determining whether you’ll be approved for an apartment, car loan, mortgage and sometimes even a job. Credit cards can serve as a great tool to help establish or build your credit, as the account and payment activity is reported to the credit bureaus.
Based on our research of cards available through CompareCards, as well as top cards offered by major issuers, we compiled a list of the best credit cards for immigrants. These cards require little or no previous credit history while also reporting payment activity, which will then go into creating your credit score. Once approved for one of these cards, you can begin your U.S. credit journey toward building a reputable credit score.

Which credit card is best for me?
If you’re new to the U.S., signing up for a credit card is a great way to begin establishing a credit profile. But whether applying for a secured card or a traditional card, you’ll want to select one that charges limited fees and reports to the three major credit bureaus — as each of the cards in this post do.
But if you feel limited by your credit card options, you can also become an authorized user on a family member or friend’s existing credit card account. Just keep in mind that if the primary cardholder fails to make payments on time, your credit history may be negatively impacted.
