How to choose the right airline business card
There are many factors to unpack when deciding which airline business credit card is best for your company. Asking questions can help you prioritize which card features will help you maintain and grow your business, plus allow you to get the best perks from your chosen airline.
How much is the card’s annual fee?
Fees for the cards reviewed run the gamut. What’s most important is that any fee you pay is offset by perks and credits that come with the card.
What’s the sign-up bonus/welcome offer for new cardmembers?
If an instant bonus miles boost is important to you, a card that offers the most to top off your airline loyalty program account could be attractive, especially if it’s enough to cover flight or seat upgrades.
What do you need to spend to earn the sign-up bonus/welcome offer?
Look at the fine print and see what that figure is. After that, decide if the bonus miles being offered balance with how much you’ll need to spend, especially if you don’t plan to pay off the card completely every month.
Which card offers the best miles/points per $1 spent?
As a business, you want to earn the most points/miles per $1 spent in spending categories that businesses charge the most on, including travel, dining and office supplies.
Does it come with business management tools?
Any good business credit card worth its salt comes with the benefit of offering employees their own cards. But you also want a card that helps you manage all those cards with tools.
Does the card help you earn elite status?
The points/miles you earn for spending on an airline business credit card go toward elite status. But it’s great if your chosen card includes another way to earn bonus qualification miles after spending predetermined amounts on the card during a calendar year. But be careful about spending just to chase after those bonus miles.
What perks does the card offer?
Airline business credit cards come with a combination of priority check-in and boarding and a free checked bag, especially if you can share them with travel companions. Other nice perks include airport lounge access, in-flight food and beverage discounts, anniversary bonus points/miles and travel/purchase protections.
