With this Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Elite Mastercard®, from our partner Citi, which was designed for those who like to travel on American Airlines, you get one air mile reward for every dollar you spend on anything. You'll also earn double miles on all American Airlines purchases. There is no annual fee for the first year of membership with this AAdvantage credit card and this card also comes with a great sign up bonus: Earn 50,000 American Airlines AAdvantage® bonus miles after spending $2,500 in purchases within the first 3 months of account opening
The Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Elite Mastercard® offers some reduced air rewards fares to selected cities for domestic travel, so instead of waiting to accumulate tons of points you can cash in for a ticket after you have saved as few as 12,500 points. Award points can expire if there is no activity in your AAdvantage account for 18 consecutive months, but when you use your Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Elite Mastercard®, the expiration clock gets reset so you don’t have to lose those points.
The annual fee is $99, waived for first 12 months. That is a pretty reasonable fee as far as airline rewards cards go. The APR will be 20.99% - 29.99%(Variable), based on your creditworthiness. Citibank does advertise its products on CompareCards.
Expert Reviews of the Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Elite Mastercard®
The Bottom Line
For those who want to accumulate credit card rewards that can be used to fly on American Airlines, this a pretty decent card with an annual fee that is waived for the first year.
The Good
You don’t have to worry about points expiring as long as you use the card at least once every 18 months. You can earn a big up front bonus and unlimited AAdvantage miles with every purchase.
The Not so Good
There is an annual fee starting the second year, and almost all of the benefits of this card are built around American Airlines travel, so if you don’t fly with that carrier it won’t do you much good.
