I have a credit balance of $17K plus with a credit rating of 776. What recommendations can anyone provide as to the best cards to transfer to. Would prefer an 18 to 21 % interest free timeframe. Also a possible no fee or low fee transfer rate.

Many cards offer excellent introductory APR offers as well as competitive rates for transferring balances. Two cards that provide extra long introductory periods as well as low transfer rates are the Citi® Double Cash Card – 18 month BT offer and the The Amex EveryDay® Credit Card from American Express !

IS there a credit card that doesn't charge a balance transfer fee? What I have read so far, I would have to pay $930 to transfer my balance to one of these suggested cards

To save on your balance transfer fee, two great options are the Chase Slate® and the BankAmericard® credit card.

By: Sun W Kim | Jan 11, 2018

$930? That's seems awfully high. I used Chase Slate before too for no BT fee. Very few cards offer 0% bt fee these days.

Chase had a credit card with a zero balance transfer fee and 0 interest for so many months.

So my husband and I did this once with the Citi card and it was fabulous we were able to pay off some of our debt and the card as well. We are looking at doing this again, does anyone recommend that?

Picture of Ed Lindsay

By: | Dec 17, 2017

One of the first things that I do is to reduce my credit limit to one that I know is manageable. The second thing that I always do is to pay the full amount due each month; thus, I don't have to worry about those interest payments. Doing these things help me to keep a good credit rating. When it comes to loans, like for your house or car, I add an extra amount to the principal each month on the loan with the highest interest rate.

I do the opposite. I request my limits get raised frequently. However, I never pay any attention to whats in my high column. Whats in the bank is what matters. I used my credit cards just like debit cards and get rewarded handsomely. The first 4 months of having my Chase Sapphire Preferred and Freedom Unlimited, I made over 700 bucks in cash back, to include the bonus for each card, which was huge. Im using it for travel via the portal though.

Good information in this read. I consolidated my credit cards all on to one, with zero interest and picked up a part time job to pay it off in one year. Once I was in the routine of my schedule, it was easy.

Which card is the best for someone in their early 20s trying to build credit?

By: CompareCards | Dec 20, 2017

If you're just beginning to build credit for the first time, you will likely need to start with a secured credit card. Secured cards work just like normal credit cards, but you have to put down a refundable security deposit to get approved. By putting a few charges on your secured cards and always paying your balance off in full and on time each month you should be able to build your credit back up over time. The Capital One® Secured Mastercard® and the Discover it® Secured are both great options.

Do any of these cards--or others--offer no balance transfer fees? Discover used to offer no balance transfer fees. I don't see that mentioned in these offers.

0% Credit Cards & Interest Free Credit Cards

Low interest rate (or 0%) credit cards can save you hundreds of dollars on balance transfers and on routine purchases carried over as credit card balances. Or you may simply want to be rewarded with a preferential interest rate as acknowledgement for good credit history and responsible debt management. Whatever your goals or motivation, zero percent or low interest credit cards can help you maintain the lowest rates available to individuals with excellent to good credit. You can find out more about credit score here.

Keep in mind that there are two main categories of low rate credit cards, namely those that offer a Variable APR and those that give you a Fixed APR.  Just like with variable versus fixed rate mortgages, a fixed rate APR will remain relatively stable through the course of the loan. If your card company decides to raise it – which is somewhat rare – they will first notify you of that change according to Federal law requirements. With a variable rate, your APR is tied to a prevailing rate such as the Prime Interest Rate. If the prime rate increases then your APR will most likely follow in a similar fashion.

Generally speaking, credit card companies and banks will extend either 6 or 21 month offers – within the 0% to 3.99% annual interest rate range. That can generate a considerable discount when normal APRs are averaging around 15% or higher. Once the introductory promotional period expires, the APR on a low interest credit card or interest free credit card may revert to the regular interest rate. Of course the ideal balance is a credit card that offers a great near term rate followed by an attractive, competitively priced low interest rate for the long term.

The interest rate charged on your credit card is widely regarded as the single most important component of your card. That’s because it determines the major cost for you to borrow or roll over balances and pay them off over time instead of all at once or within the same month that you make purchases. That’s why getting a zero percent or low interest credit card can be huge financial boon, no matter what your credit card usage patterns or money management strategies may be.
