I usually use british airways or virgin air to fly to London what would be the best creditcard to earn miles and lowest interest rates

By: CompareCards | Aug 24, 2015

Hi Robin,

Typically, travel rewards credit cards do not come with low interest rates. That's because if you're carrying a balance on your credit card, the interest you are paying will always negate the rewards that you are earning. Basically, if you carry a balance, you'll always be better off with a low interest card with no rewards, and if you pay your balance off in full each month, you won't have to worry about whether your rewards card has a high interest rate.

That said, the Chase Sapphire Preferred would be an excellent credit card for the type of travel you are doing because you can transfer your points from this credit card directly to British Airways and Virgin Atlantic Flying Club!

Hi Tony,

There aren't currently any credit cards that offer 0% APR for 2 years, but the Citi Simplicity and the Citi Diamond Preferred offer 0% APR for 21 months on both purchases and balance transfers, and both cards come with no annual fee.

I need no interest, low payment, bad credit type cards

By: CompareCards | Aug 24, 2015

Hi Sherry,

If you have bad credit, you're options will be very limited as far as credit cards that you can get approved for. Typically, credit cards for bad credit come with high interest rates because the applicants are considered high risk.

One option to consider is the Credit One Bank Credit Card. The APR is 17.9%-23.9%, but if you continually make your payments on time, it will help you build your credit score so you can get approved for a lower interest credit card down the road.

Hi Jacque,

The low interest credit cards that offer the longest intro APR are the Citi Simplicity and the Citi Diamond Preferred which both offer 21 months with 0% APR. Fortunately, neither of these cards come with an annual fee and the 21 month promotion applies to both new purchases and balance transfers.

I dont have any credit score yet nor do I own a credit card. What credit card should I choose to start with? I have a BofA checking account.

By: CompareCards | Aug 19, 2015

Hi Edelyn,

If you have no credit, you'll probably need to start with a secured credit card. A secured card works just like a normal credit card, but you have to put down a refundable security deposit to get approved. The Capital One Secured MasterCard is an excellent option to start with. Once you've used your secured card responsibly for about a year, you'll be able to get approved for a standard, unsecured credit card.

I am working to establish my credit. What's the range for a really good credit score, my current score is, 717

By: CompareCards | Aug 18, 2015

Hi Wanda,

With a credit score of 717, your credit rating is considered "good," but not quite excellent. Typically, good credit is anything between 680-740, and an excellent score would be everything over 740. Nonetheless, you should be able to get approved for almost any credit cards, with the exception of a select few premium rewards cards.

If your goal to to build credit, make sure you're paying all your bills on time and try to carry as little debt as possible, because those two factors make up 65% of your credit score.

By: CompareCards | Aug 18, 2015

Hi Ana,

Typically, travel rewards credit cards do not offer a promotional APR for balance transfers. This is because if you are carrying a balance and paying interest charges each month, that will completely negate the value of any rewards you are earning.

That said, there are a number of http://www.comparecards.com/best-cashback-credit-cards-2015 that offer a promotional APR for balance transfers. Two I would recommend taking a look at are the Citi Double Cash and the Chase Freedom.

0% Credit Cards & Interest Free Credit Cards

Low interest rate (or 0%) credit cards can save you hundreds of dollars on balance transfers and on routine purchases carried over as credit card balances. Or you may simply want to be rewarded with a preferential interest rate as acknowledgement for good credit history and responsible debt management. Whatever your goals or motivation, zero percent or low interest credit cards can help you maintain the lowest rates available to individuals with excellent to good credit. You can find out more about credit score here.

Keep in mind that there are two main categories of low rate credit cards, namely those that offer a Variable APR and those that give you a Fixed APR.  Just like with variable versus fixed rate mortgages, a fixed rate APR will remain relatively stable through the course of the loan. If your card company decides to raise it – which is somewhat rare – they will first notify you of that change according to Federal law requirements. With a variable rate, your APR is tied to a prevailing rate such as the Prime Interest Rate. If the prime rate increases then your APR will most likely follow in a similar fashion.

Generally speaking, credit card companies and banks will extend either 6 or 21 month offers – within the 0% to 3.99% annual interest rate range. That can generate a considerable discount when normal APRs are averaging around 15% or higher. Once the introductory promotional period expires, the APR on a low interest credit card or interest free credit card may revert to the regular interest rate. Of course the ideal balance is a credit card that offers a great near term rate followed by an attractive, competitively priced low interest rate for the long term.

The interest rate charged on your credit card is widely regarded as the single most important component of your card. That’s because it determines the major cost for you to borrow or roll over balances and pay them off over time instead of all at once or within the same month that you make purchases. That’s why getting a zero percent or low interest credit card can be huge financial boon, no matter what your credit card usage patterns or money management strategies may be.
