Expert Reviews

From the CompareCards.com Editorial Team

The Jasper Cash Back Mastercard® is a good starter credit card designed to help applicants with no credit build credit history. It offers a credit limit of up to $5,000 and charges a $0 annual fee.

And because the Jasper Mastercard is specifically aimed at helping immigrants to the United States build credit, you can even apply without a Social Security number. After obtaining your SSN, you’ll need to provide it to Jasper within 60 days of card activation. To apply without an SSN, you’ll need to provide your passport, visa information and proof of U.S. employment.

Note that you won’t build credit history without an SSN, but your card usage will be reported to the credit bureaus retroactively after your SSN is linked.

The Bottom Line

If you have no credit history and you’re looking for your first credit card, the Jasper Mastercard is a fine choice.

The Good

You can be considered for the Jasper Mastercard even if you have no credit history, and the Purchase APR is a relatively low 15.49% -24.99% (Variable). Plus, the annual fee is $0.

The Not so Good

The Jasper Mastercard’s main downfall is that it only reports to two of the three major credit bureaus — Equifax and TransUnion. It does not currently report to Experian. Another shortcoming of this card is that you can’t add authorized users, which most cards allow as a way to help a spouse or other relative build credit through your account activity.
