Chase rolled out the new Chase Freedom Flex℠ credit card in September 2020 and it’s pretty enticing. Not only does the card offer 5% cash back in rotating categories every quarter, it also boasts an elevated rewards rate for travel instead of the standard 1% on all other purchases not included in the rotating spending categories. Plus, it’s a World Elite Mastercard, which comes with cellphone protection, free ShopRunner membership and Lyft and Boxed discounts.
The generous cashback rate on quarterly rotating categories as well as travel purchases through Chase and dining and drugstore spending, combined with its generous intro APR offer for purchases and sign-up bonus make the Chase Freedom Flex℠ a very attractive choice to add to your wallet, especially since it comes with a $0 annual fee.
With the Chase Freedom Flex℠, earn 5% cash back on eligible purchases in rotating categories, 5% on travel purchased through chase ultimate rewards®, 3% on dining and drugstores, and 1% on all other purchases. The quarterly rotating categories in 2020 have included Amazon.com, Whole Foods Market, select streaming services, gas stations, Walmart and PayPal, gym memberships and more. There is a $0 annual fee, and new cardholders can earn a $200 bonus after you spend $500 on purchases in your first 3 months from account opening. and earn 5% cash back on grocery store purchases (not including target® or walmart® purchases) on up to $12,000 spent in the first year. As if that wasn’t enough, the Chase Freedom Flex℠ is also offering a 0% Intro APR on Purchases for 15 months. After, a 14.99% - 24.74% Variable APR will apply. Additional benefits include auto rental collision coverage, trip cancellation/interruption insurance, travel and emergency assistance, extended warranty and purchase protections.
There’s not much to not like about the Chase Freedom Flex℠. The only downsides are that the card does charge a foreign transaction fee of 3% of each transaction in U.S. dollars, and cardholders are required to activate the rotating spending categories every quarter to qualify for the 5% cashback rate on those.
