The U.S. Bank FlexPerks® Business Travel Rewards Card doesn’t offer some of the lavish business and travel perks that some premium business cards come with; however, it is a solid option for a card that doesn’t charge an annual fee the first year.

The U.S. Bank FlexPerks® Business Travel Rewards Card lets business owners earn bonus points in the areas where they spend the most. Cardholders earn 2 FlexPoints on gas, office supply store or airline purchases (whichever you spend the most on each billing cycle), 2 FlexPoints on qualifying charitable donations and cellular services providers and 1 FlexPoint on everything else.

Cardholders also earn 25,000 flex points after you spend $2,000 on eligible net purchases within the first 4 months of opening your account. FlexPoints can be redeemed for travel, merchandise, gift cards, cash back, live events and more.

Read on to learn what you need to know about the U.S. Bank FlexPerks® Business Travel Rewards Card, including where it stands out, where it falls short and how it compares to the Capital One® Spark® Miles Select for Business.

Where the U.S. Bank FlexPerks® Business Travel Rewards Card stands out

Sign-up bonus. Earn 25,000 Flex Points after you spend $2,000 on eligible net purchases within the first 4 months of opening your account. The sign-up bonus is worth $375 when redeemed for airfare, hotel stays, car rentals and other travel expenses.

Rewards to fit your spending habits. Cardholders earn 2 FlexPoints on gas, office supply store or airline purchases (whichever you spend the most on each billing cycle), 2 FlexPoints on qualifying charitable donations and cellular services providers and 1 FlexPoint on everything else.

Annual fee credit. The U.S. Bank FlexPerks® Business Travel Rewards Card offers a unique feature that reimburses you for the $55 annual fee when you spend $24,000 or more in a year on the card.

No foreign transaction fees. You will not be charged when you use your card outside of the U.S.

Additional U.S. Bank FlexPerks® Business Travel Rewards Card benefits

  • Airline credit for up to $25 per round-trip ticket toward baggage fees or in-flight food and drinks
  • Protection against unauthorized purchases with zero fraud liability, chip technology and 24/7 fraud monitoring
  • Spending controls for employee business cards
  • Instant redemption of FlexPoints via your mobile device with Real-Time Mobile Rewards

Where the U.S. Bank FlexPerks® Business Travel Rewards Card falls short

No intro APR on purchases. The U.S. Bank FlexPerks® Business Travel Rewards Card does not offer an introductory APR on purchases. If you plan to carry a balance on your card (note: we recommend paying off your balance in full each month), you’ll be better off with a card that offers a 0% introductory APR, like the aforementioned Capital One® Spark® Miles Select for Business (to be discussed further below).

No intro APR on balance transfers. If you want to transfer a balance from a different credit card, the U.S. Bank FlexPerks® Business Travel Rewards Card is not ideal since it does not offer an intro APR on balance transfers. Additionally, the card charges a fee of either 3% of the amount of each transfer or $5 minimum, whichever is greater.

High spend threshold to receive the annual fee credit. The U.S. Bank FlexPerks® Business Travel Rewards Card comes with an annual fee of $0 for the first year, after $55 for Account Owners and $10 for Authorized Employees. Although the card offers an annual fee credit, keep in mind that you need to spend at least $24,000 per year on the card to receive the $55 reimbursement.
