IHG® Rewards Club Premier Credit Card members can earn 140,000 bonus points after spending $3,000 on purchases within the first three months of account opening. This is an excellent opportunity to earn a generous amount of rewards in a short period of time, which can then be used toward future hotel stays, gift cards, merchandise and more.

The IHG® Rewards Club Premier Credit Card does come with an $89 annual fee. However, the value you can get from the card’s sign-up bonus, rewards rate and anniversary bonus more than make up for that amount.

Are you eligible for the IHG® Rewards Club Premier Credit Card?

You are not eligible to receive the current sign-up bonus offer if you are an existing IHG® Rewards Club Premier Credit Card holder, or if you are a previous IHG® Rewards Club Premier Credit Card holder who has received a new card member bonus for that card within the past 24 months.

Also, keep in mind that Chase’s “5/24 rule” prevents you from being approved for a new Chase card if you have opened five personal credit cards (from any issuer) within the past 24 months.

How can you use your sign-up bonus?

IHG points can be redeemed in a variety of ways, including:

Hotel stays. Points can be redeemed for stays at any of IHG’s 5,200 properties worldwide, starting at 10,000 points a night.

The current sign-up bonus, for example, can get you a four-night stay at the Staybridge Suites at SeaWorld Orlando — at 30,000 points per night.

Merchandise. Points can be used to purchase electronics, kitchen appliances, sporting goods, jewelry, clothing and much more from IHG’s online catalog. For example, you can purchase a Dyson V7 Motorhead cordless vacuum for 129,000 points.

Gift cards. You can redeem points for gift cards at a variety of major retailers, including the Apple Store, Bass Pro Shops, Best Buy, Lowe’s, Amazon.com, ExxonMobil and more.

Magazine subscriptions. Points can be used to purchase yearly memberships for a number of magazines, including Allure, Better Homes & Garden, Real Simple, GQ, Travel + Leisure and more.

Digital entertainment. Your points can also be used to download e-books, games, music, movies and more.

Charities. You can donate your points to help causes, such as Goodwill, American Red Cross and Youth Career Initiative.

Transferring IHG rewards points

IHG® Rewards Club Premier Credit Card also allows you to transfer rewards to a number of travel transfer partners, including Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, British Airways, Delta SkyMiles, JetBlue TrueBlue, Qantas Airlines, Singapore Airlines, United Airlines and Virgin Atlantic.

That said, points transfer at a rate of 5:1 or worse. Meaning, if you transfer 20,000 IHG points to JetBlue Airlines, you will only receive 4,000 TrueBlue points.

Other ways to earn IHG rewards

In addition to the high sign-up bonus, IHG® Rewards Club Premier Credit Card holders can earn bonus points the following ways:

Rewards rate. Earn up to 25 points total per $1 spent when you stay at an IHG hotel. Earn 2 points per $1 spent on purchases at gas stations, grocery stores, and restaurants. Earn 1 point per $1 spent on all other purchases.

Note, to earn the maximum rewards rate, you must be an IHG Rewards Club member with Platinum Elite status (note, you will automatically receive Platinum Elite status upon card approval).

Anniversary bonus. Receive 10,000 bonus points when you spend $20,000 plus one additional purchase after meeting that spending requirement each account anniversary year.

Referral bonus. With the IHG® Rewards Club Premier Credit Card, you can earn up to 50,000 bonus points annually when you invite friends to carry the card, and the friends are approved. Cardholders earn 10,000 bonus points for each person they refer who is approved — up to five referrals per year.

Authorized users. The IHG® Rewards Club Premier Credit Card does not offer a bonus when you add an authorized user to your account. However, the card does allow you to earn points when an authorized user makes a purchase using their card.

Should you apply now?

If you frequently stay at any of IHG’s more than 5,200 hotels and resorts worldwide, now is the ideal time to apply for the IHG® Rewards Club Premier Credit Card. In addition to an anniversary bonus and rewards on every purchase, the card offers an extremely high sign-up bonus: Earn 140,000 bonus points after spending $3,000 on purchases within the first three months of account opening
