If you’re in the process of home renovations or decorating, chances are pretty good that you’ve visited the Houzz website for design inspiration or to purchase furniture and other decor. If that’s the case, you’ll be happy to learn that you can now earn rewards on those purchases, thanks to the launch of the Houzz Credit Card.

The Houzz Credit Card offers 5% Back in Houzz Rewards every time you use your card to shop on Houzz, as well as a $50 Welcome Reward in Houzz Reward Dollars after you open and use your card on Houzz. Reward Dollars can be redeemed for Reward Certificates — in increments of $25 — and used toward qualifying purchases at Houzz.

In this review, we’ll break down the pros and cons of the Houzz Credit Card, as well as show how it compares to Houzz’s other new credit card, the Houzz Mastercard®.

Where the Houzz Credit Card stands out

Sign-up bonus. Get a $50 Welcome Reward in Houzz Reward Dollars after you open and use your card on Houzz.

Rewards rate. Houzz Credit Card holders who enroll in the Houzz rewards program receive 5% Back in Houzz Rewards every time you use your card to shop on Houzz. For example, if you spend $500 at Houzz, you will earn $25 in Rewards Dollars.

Special financing. You can enjoy six months of interest-free payments on Houzz purchases of $350 or more, or 12 months of interest-free payments on Houzz purchases of $700 or more. To participate in a financing plan, you must meet the minimum required payment each month.

If the purchase balance is not paid in full within the six- or 12-month promotional period, you will be charged interest from the purchase date.

Additional Houzz Credit Card benefits

The Houzz Credit Card offers a dedicated customer support team, which is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You can contact customer support at (800) 853-2926.

Where the Houzz Credit Card falls short

Exclusive to Houzz purchases. With the Houzz Credit Card, you can only use the Houzz Credit Card to make purchases on Houzz. By contrast, the Houzz Mastercard® can be used anywhere Mastercard is accepted (more on that below).

Reward certificate limitations. Rewards certificates expire 90 days from the date they are issued.

High APR. This is not a card on which you want to carry a balance, unless you opt for the special financing offer, as the APR is sky-high at 28.99% variable.

Compare it to the Houzz Mastercard®

If you want to earn rewards outside of Houzz, the Houzz Mastercard® is a great alternative. Unlike the Houzz Credit Card, the Houzz Mastercard® can be used anywhere Mastercard is accepted. Cardholders earn 5% Back in Houzz Rewards every time you use your card to shop on Houzz, 1% Back in Houzz Rewards every time you use your card outside of Houzz.

See how the cards compare side by side in the table below.

Houzz Credit Card vs. Houzz Mastercard®

Houzz Credit Card Houzz Mastercard®
Annual fee $0 $0
Sign-up bonus $50 Welcome Reward in Houzz Reward Dollars after you open and use your card on Houzz $50 Welcome Reward in Houzz Reward Dollars after you open and use your card on Houzz. Earn an additional $50 in Houzz Rewards when you spend $500 on your card outside Houzz in the first 90 days of account opening.
Rewards rate 5% Back in Houzz Rewards every time you use your card to shop on Houzz 5% Back in Houzz Rewards every time you use your card to shop on Houzz, 1% Back in Houzz Rewards every time you use your card outside of Houzz
Regular APR for purchases 28.99% variable 26.99% variable
Foreign transaction fees N/A None

The Houzz Mastercard® also offers a $50 Welcome Reward in Houzz Reward Dollars after you open and use your card on Houzz. Earn an additional $50 in Houzz Rewards when you spend $500 on your card outside Houzz in the first 90 days of account opening.

While the Houzz Mastercard® offers a slightly lower regular interest rate than the Houzz Credit Card, it does not offer special financing options, so you should pay your balance off in full to avoid high interest charges. However, the card does come with Mastercard member benefits, including identity theft resolution services, zero-liability protection and more.

The bottom line

If you only plan to use your credit card on Houzz purchases and if you want to take advantage of special financing, the Houzz Credit Card is a good choice. Along with offering a generous rewards rate on those purchases, you can opt to pay zero interest for six or 12 months on purchases when you meet the spending requirements.

But if you want to earn Houzz Reward Dollars on every purchase, including those made outside of Houzz, the Houzz Mastercard® is the better choice. Keep in mind, though, that the Houzz Mastercard® does not offer special financing options. So if you don’t pay your balance in full each month, you will incur an APR of 26.99% variable.
