Are you eligible for the Delta SkyMiles® Blue American Express Card?

If you currently have the Delta SkyMiles® Blue American Express Card, or if you’ve had the card in the past, you are not eligible to receive the card’s current welcome offer.

Also, American Express may take into account the number of American Express cards you have opened or closed when considering your eligibility.

How can you use your Delta SkyMiles® Blue American Express Card welcome offer?

Delta SkyMiles can be redeemed in the following ways:

Delta purchases. Delta SkyMiles can be redeemed for airfare on Delta Airlines in increments of 5,000 miles. Each mile is generally worth 1 cent when redeemed for airfare — making the current sign-up bonus worth approximately $150 in airfare.

Plus, miles can be used to upgrade your seat on a Delta flight, get a Delta Sky Club membership or book a vacation package through Delta Vacations.

SkyMiles Experiences. You can use miles to bid on SkyMiles Experiences, which includes exclusive access to sporting events, culinary events, concerts and more.

For example, the opening bid for VIP tickets to the Governors Ball Music Festival in New York is 30,000 miles.

The gift of go. You can redeem your miles for Delta gift cards, which can be used to purchase Delta flights and packages from Delta Vacations.

Merchandise. Miles can also be used to purchase a variety of items, including household appliances, office supplies, apparel, electronics, sporting goods and more. For example, you can purchase an Insignia multi-function pressure cooker for 9,163 miles.

Gift cards. You can redeem miles for gift cards from a number of major retailers, including Amazon, Starbucks, Omaha Steaks, Airbnb, Sunoco, Best Buy and more.

Magazine subscriptions. Points can be used to purchase yearly subscriptions for major magazines, such as Vanity Fair (800 miles), Better Homes & Garden (400 miles), Bloomberg Businessweek (1,600 miles), Health (400 miles), Golf Digest (900 miles), Sports Illustrated (700 miles) and Food & Wine (500 miles).

Charity. You can donate your miles to charities across the globe, including the American Red Cross, Canine Assistants, Children’s Miracle Network, Make-A-Wish and UNICEF.

Transferring Delta SkyMiles rewards

Although you cannot transfer Delta SkyMiles to other airline loyalty programs, you can use your Delta SkyMiles to book travel on partner airlines when booked through Delta. Partner airlines include Aeromexico, Air France, China Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Korean Air, Virgin Atlantic and WestJet.

Other ways to earn Delta SkyMiles rewards

In addition to Delta purchases, the Delta SkyMiles® Blue American Express Card now offers an elevated rewards rate on restaurant purchases. Earn 2X Miles per dollar spent on Delta purchases and at restaurants, now worldwide. Earn 1X Mile on all other eligible purchases.

The Delta category includes purchases made directly with Delta, such as flights booked at Delta.com, Delta Sky Club membership or passes, Delta Vacation packages, seat upgrades and in-flight purchases or food, beverages and audio headsets.

The restaurant category includes purchases made at restaurants worldwide. However, purchases made at restaurants located within another establishment, such as a restaurant inside of a hotel, casino or event venue, may not qualify for this category.

Should you apply for the Delta SkyMiles® Blue American Express Card?

If you fly on Delta Airlines from time to time, now is a good time to apply for the Delta SkyMiles® Blue American Express Card. Along with earning Delta SkyMiles on every purchase, cardholders receive 15,000 bonus miles after spending $1,000 in purchases on your new Card in your first 3 months of Card Membership.

However, if you’d prefer to earn a larger welcome offer and more premium benefits – and you don’t mind paying an annual fee after the first year — you may want to consider the Delta SkyMiles® Gold American Express Card instead.
