How the 2020 calendar compares to 2019

While the full 2020 cashback calendar is not yet available, you can get a good idea of what bonus categories Chase includes from previous cashback calendars.

Here are the bonus categories from 2019:

Chase Freedom® cashback calendar 2019
January – March April – June July – September October – December
Gas stations, tolls, drugstores Grocery stores* and home improvement stores Select streaming services and gas stations Department stores, PayPal and Chase Pay®

* Not including Target and Walmart

New additions for the first quarter of 2020 include streaming services, which were third quarter bonus categories in 2019. Tolls were added as a bonus category in 2019 and the drugstore category was expanded beyond just Walgreens.

Unfortunately, Chase has not yet brought back restaurants as a bonus category, which hasn’t appeared since 2017.

An alternative to Discover and Chase’s quarterly rotating bonus categories is the Bank of America® Cash Rewards credit card - $200 Cash Rewards Offer which provides cardholders a flexible rewards program.

If you’re an existing or new Bank of America® Cash Rewards credit card - $200 Cash Rewards Offer holder, you’ll be able to earn 3% and 2% cash back on the first $2,500 in combined choice category/grocery store/wholesale club purchases each quarter, 1% on all other purchases. The 3% cash back categories are gas, online shopping, dining, travel, drug stores, or home improvement and furnishings. Unlike other rotating bonus category cards that preselect bonus categories every quarter, cardholders can choose which one of the six categories they want to earn 3% cash back in every month.

In addition to a cashback program, the Bank of America® Cash Rewards credit card - $200 Cash Rewards Offer offers a 0% Introductory APR on purchases for 15 billing cycles (after that, a 15.49% - 25.49% Variable APR applies). This allows you to finance new purchases over a year without incurring interest charges. Just know that the Chase Freedom® also offers a 0% Intro APR on Purchases for 15 months (after that, a 16.49% - 25.24% variable APR applies), which provides more interest-free financing.
