While both cards waive the annual fee the first year, the Capital One® Venture® Rewards Credit Card charges a slightly higher annual fee after the first year. Additionally, the Capital One® Venture® Rewards Credit Card requires a significantly higher spend threshold to earn its sign-up bonus.

Capital One® Venture® Rewards Credit Card members can earn a One-time bonus of 50,000 miles once you spend $3,000 on purchases within 3 months from account opening, equal to $500 in travel. Compare that with just $1,000 in the first three billing cycles (approximately $333 per month for three months) to receive the Best Western Rewards® Premium Mastercard®’s bonus.

That said, in addition to offering 10 miles per dollar on hotel bookings made through hotels.com through January 2020, the Capital One® Venture® Rewards Credit Card provides some travel benefits that aren’t available with the Best Western card. For example, the Capital One® Venture® Rewards Credit Card offers a credit of up to $100 credit for your Global Entry or TSA PreCheck application and an auto rental collision damage waiver.

Additional Capital One® Venture® Rewards Credit Card perks include 24/7 travel assistance services, travel accident insurance, access to culinary experiences and entertainment events. $0 fraud liability and much more.

The bottom line

If you frequently stay at Best Western hotels, the Best Western Rewards® Premium Mastercard® provides a great way to earn a large influx of rewards that can be used toward free hotel stays. However, if you want more flexibility to choose which hotels on which to earn and redeem bonus rewards, the Capital One® Venture® Rewards Credit Card is a better choice.

If you like the Capital One® Venture® Rewards Credit Card, but don’t want to be responsible for an annual fee after the first year, you may want to consider the Capital One® VentureOne® Rewards Credit Card instead.
