Streaming music, movies and TV shows has become increasingly popular in recent years. In fact, according to a 2019 study by CompareCards.com, three out of four Americans currently have at least one online subscription, and those with online subscriptions spend an average of $38 per month.
If you fall into that category, you’ll be happy to know that there are several credit cards that now offer points or cash back on streaming purchases. So whether you listen to music on Spotify, binge watch your favorite TV series on Netflix or keep up with the big game on ESPN+, with the right card, you can be rewarded for doing so.

What is included?
The select U.S. streaming subscriptions category includes a wide variety of services, including Amazon Music, Apple Music, Audible, CBS All Access, Direct TV Now, ESPN+, HBO Now, Netflix, Hulu, Kindle Unlimited, NBA League Pass, Sling TV and much more. The Wells Fargo Propel American Express® card offers triple the points for select music streaming services.
Cardholders earn 3x points on eating out and ordering in, 3x points on gas stations, rideshares and transit, and 3x points on travel including flights, hotels, homestays and car rentals. earn 1x points on other purchases. Plus, you’ll earn 30,000 bonus points when you spend $3,000 in purchases in the first 3 months of card membership.
What is included?
Cardholders can earn the triple points on the following streaming services: Apple Music, Hulu, Netflix, Pandora, Sirius XM Radio and Spotify Premium.
Although the Wells Fargo Propel American Express® card doesn’t provide a huge selection of streaming services to choose from, it does offer a generous rewards rate, especially for a no-annual-fee card. For example, if you subscribe to Hulu with no ads for $11.99 per month and Spotify Premium for $9.99 per month, you’ll earn just under 800 points on those purchases in one year. Points can then be redeemed for merchandise, travel, gift cards, cash redemption options or charitable donations.

The Citi Premier℠ Card offers double points on select entertainment purchases, which include streaming services. In addition, cardholders earn 3x points on travel, including gas stations, earn 2x points on dining out & entertainment, earn 1x points on all other purchases. Additionally, you’ll Earn 60,000 bonus ThankYou® Points after you spend $4,000 in purchases within the first 3 months of account opening.
You can redeem points for travel, tickets for events at LiveNation.com, gift cards or cash back. Points are worth 25% more when redeemed for airfare — boosting the value of the 60,000-point sign-up bonus to $750 in airfare.
What is included?
According to Citi, the entertainment category includes the following: live entertainment, live theatrical productions, concerts, live sporting events, movie theaters, amusement parks (e.g. zoos, aquariums, circuses and carnivals), tourist attractions (e.g. museums and art galleries), record stores, video rental stores and on-demand internet streaming media.
Note, purchases made at satellite and cable service providers are not eligible for double points.
While the Citi Premier℠ Card offers the lowest amount of points per dollar on streaming services among these cards, it offers a generous sign-up bonus and the ability to earn bonus points in well-rounded categories, such as dining and travel.
Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card
The Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card lets you earn 5% back at Amazon.com and Whole Foods Market, 2% back at restaurants, gas stations and drugstores, 1% back on all other purchases (You must have Prime membership to earn the 5% bonus). Additionally, cardholders receive an $70 Amazon.com Gift Card instantly upon credit card approval.
What is included?
Although there is not a specific “streaming” bonus category, you are able to earn 5% cash back on your Prime membership fee, which automatically includes streaming through Prime Music and Prime Video.
If you frequently shop at Amazon, the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card is a great option. In addition to earning 5% cash back on Amazon purchases, you’ll also earn 5% cash back on your Prime membership fee.
Although the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card doesn’t offer bonus cash back on some of the more popular streaming services, such as Netflix and Apple Music, keep in mind that your Prime membership comes with Prime Video, which gives you access to thousands of movies and TV shows and Amazon Originals, and Prime Music, which offers over two million songs. The bottom line
More likely than not, streaming services only make up a small portion of your monthly budget — especially when compared to more essential expenses, like food or gas. For those reasons alone, you’d be better off choosing a card that rewards you for spending in those high-budget categories.
Still, the ability to earn bonus points and cash back on the purchases you already make, like music and video streaming, is a great added bonus to any credit card.
