When choosing a restaurant credit card, it’s important to consider not just the number of rewards per dollar you can earn on dining purchases, but how else you plan to use it.

Additionally, from July 1 through Sept. 30, 2020, earn 5X points on Instacart pickup orders and deliveries on up to $3,000, as well as a $50 statement credit on Instacart Express membership. The Wells Fargo Propel American Express® card offers an excellent rewards rate on a wide variety of categories. Earn 3X points on eating out, ordering in and popular streaming services, 3X points on gas stations, rideshares and transit, and 3X points on travel including flights, hotels, homestays and car rentals. Earn 1X points on other purchases.

If you need to fill your gas tank, grab a bite to eat at a restaurant and then relax with a streaming TV show, this is the right card for all those things. Points earned are Go Far points, worth 1 cent each.

Plus, the annual fee is $0 and the foreign transaction fee is none. So you don’t have to pay to carry the card or pay an additional fee on each transaction when using it outside the U.S.

Additional Wells Fargo Propel American Express® card benefits

Welcome offer. Earn 20,000 bonus points when you spend $1,000 in purchases in the first 3 months - that's a $200 cash redemption value.

Best for food delivery and rideshare services: Uber Visa Card

If you regularly order meals through a food delivery service, you can earn a good amount of cash back with the Uber Visa Card. The card offers 5% back in Uber Cash on Uber rides, Uber Eats, and JUMP, 3% in Uber Cash on restaurants, bars, hotels, and airfare, and 1% back in Uber Cash on all other purchases.

Which restaurant credit card should you choose?

Ultimately, the best dining credit card for you comes down to how you plan to use the card. For example, if you want to earn the highest cashback rewards rate on dining purchases while paying an annual fee of $0 intro for first year; $95 after that, the Capital One® Savor® Cash Rewards Credit Card will be your best option.

But if you want to earn points on restaurant purchases and a sign-up bonus that’s worth $750 when redeemed for travel through Chase Ultimate Rewards (while also receiving special benefits for food delivery), the Chase Sapphire Reserve® could be a better fit. Just keep in mind that the card comes with a substantial annual fee of $550 (or $450 if renewed between July 1 and Dec. 31).
