If you’re a small business owner in search of a business credit card, it may be difficult to know where to start. Capital One, which ranked third in a tie with Chase in J.D. Power’s 2019 U.S. Credit Card Satisfaction Study, currently offers five business credit cards, each of which offers rewards on every purchase, employee cards at no-cost, no foreign transaction fees and complimentary business management tools.

When deciding which Capital One business credit card is the right fit for your company, you should first figure out how you plan to use the card. For example, if you take frequent business trips, you could select a card that lets you earn rewards to redeem toward future travel. But if you want to finance a large purchase and pay it off over time, a business card that offers an intro APR on purchases could be a better fit.

Here are our picks for the best Capital One business cards for the following categories:

Best travel credit card: Capital One® Spark® Miles for Business

If you want to earn rewards to use toward future travel, the Capital One® Spark® Miles for Business may be your best option. The card lets cardholders earn a one-time bonus of 50,000 miles – equal to $500 in travel – once you spend $4,500 on purchases within the first 3 months from account opening.

Cardholders also earn 2 miles per $1 on every purchase, everywhere, plus 5x miles on hotel and rental car bookings through Capital One Travel using your card.

Miles can be redeemed for flights, hotels, vacation packages and more. You can also transfer your miles to a number of travel transfer loyalty programs, including Accor Live Limitless, Air France KLM Flying Blue, Avianca LifeMiles and JetBlue TrueBlue.

The Capital One® Spark® Miles for Business card does come with an annual fee of $0 intro for first year; $95 after that. However, the value you can get from the card’s benefits can help offset that amount. For example, cardholders receive a statement credit of up to $100 for Global Entry or TSA Precheck every four years.

Additional card details:

  • 20.99% (variable) purchase APR
  • Monitor recurring transactions via a list of merchants who are regularly charging your card for subscriptions and recurring bills
  • Set customized spending limits on employee cards
  • Extended warranty and purchase protection

Best cash back credit card: Capital One® Spark® Cash for Business

The Capital One® Spark® Cash for Business card offers the highest cashback rate among Capital One business credit cards: Cardholders earn unlimited 2% cash back for your business on every purchase, everywhere. This flat rewards rate can be extra appealing to those who don’t want the hassle of keeping track of rotating bonus categories or spending caps found on some competing business cards.

The Capital One® Spark® Cash for Business card also lets cardholders earn a one-time $500 cash bonus once you spend $4,500 on purchases within 3 months from account opening. But keep in mind that the card charges an annual fee of $0 intro for first year; $95 after that.

Additional card details:

  • 20.99% (variable) purchase APR
  • Itemized year-end spending reports to simplify budgeting and taxes
  • Ability to download purchase records to Quicken, QuickBooks and Excel
  • Auto rental damage waiver to cover damage caused by collision or theft
  • Emergency card replacement
  • Purchase security and extended protection

If you want to earn cash back without paying an annual fee after the first year, and you don’t mind earning a slightly lower cashback rate, you may want to consider the Capital One® Spark® Cash Select for Business card instead (more on that below).

Best card to build credit: Capital One® Spark® Classic for Business

If you’re a business owner with less-than-perfect credit, a business credit card that helps you build credit with responsible usage should be on your radar. The Capital One® Spark® Classic for Business card is the only Capital One business card that accepts “average” credit – which, according to Capital One, includes individuals who have defaulted on a loan in the past five years or those with limited credit history.

The $0 annual fee Capital One® Spark® Classic for Business card offers a modest rewards rate of 1% cash back on every purchase. However, your focus with this card should be to establish responsible card usage by paying your balance in full and on time each month – as opposed to earning rewards.

Additional card details:

  • 24.49% (variable) purchase APR
  • Zero fraud liability if you card is lost or stolen
  • 24/7 travel and emergency assistance services, including legal and medical referrals and ticket replacement
  • Set the date you want to pay your bill each month

Which Capital One business credit card is right for you?

Because Capital One business credit cards offer many of the same benefits – including fraud alerts, year-end summaries and easily downloadable purchase records – deciding which one is best for your business ultimately comes down to how you plan to use the card.

For example, if you think the cash back you’ll earn will more than cover the annual fee, the Capital One® Spark® Cash for Business may be the best choice. But if you don’t have excellent credit, the Capital One® Spark® Classic for Business card provides a great opportunity to build your credit while also earning cashback rewards.
