Earn Delta SkyMiles® With No Annual Fee

For everyday earning to build up your Delta SkyMiles® account, you’re going to find better value in The Amex EveryDay® Credit Card from American Express than the popular Gold Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card from American Express. On top of that, your SkyMiles card carries an annual fee of $0 introductory annual fee for the first year, then $95., while The Amex EveryDay® Credit Card from American Express is a $0 annual-fee card. Though the Delta card does have additional perks (free checked bag, priority boarding, 20% off in-flight purchases), it only earns 1 mile per dollar spent.

The Amex EveryDay® Credit Card from American Express gives you 2x points at US supermarkets, on up to $6,000 per year in purchases (then 1x), 1x points on other purchases. Add to that a 20% bonus on ALL points earned each month when you use your card 20 or more times within a billing period. This effectively makes your supermarket purchases worth 2.4x points, and all others 1.2x points.

Let’s look at an example of how those bonuses add up vs. the Gold Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card from American Express card during a typical year of spending.

• Singapore Airlines

• British Airways

• Iberia

• Delta

• Alitalia

• Aeromexico

• El Al

• Emirates

• Hawaiian Airlines

• JetBlue

• Virgin America

• Virgin Atlantic

Hotels

• Starwood

• Hilton

• Choice Privileges

One of the best airline redemptions from the above partners is the British Airways Avios points for short-haul domestic flights. You can use these points on partner airlines (American or Alaska), and book flights for as low as 7,500 points each way. For example, a flight from Boston to New York is only 7,500 points each way, or 15,000 points round trip. The BEST value for Avios is flying from the West Coast to Hawaii. From Los Angeles to Maui using Avios on American Airlines is only 25,000 points round trip!

Some other great redemptions are Aeroplan and Singapore Airlines miles. Specifically, you can use these miles to book domestic flights on United Airlines.

Using Aeroplan Miles, you can book domestic flights within the U.S. starting at 15,000 miles round trip.

You can see the full Aeroplan Star Alliance (which includes United) award chart here.

Using Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Miles, you can book domestic flights within the U.S. starting at 25,000 miles round trip.

Use Points To buy Flights or Gift Cards

You can also book travel directly through the American Express Travel Website, where your Membership rewards are worth 1 cent per point. That means every 1,000 points is worth $10 in airfare.

As a last resort, you can using Membership Rewards to purchase gift cards through the Membership Rewards site. This can net you 1 cent per point, but many time will give you less than that, making is a bad value.
