Annual airline fee credit

This benefit allows you to select one qualifying airline and receive up to $200 in statement credits per calendar year to go toward baggage fees and other incidental air travel fees. You’ll get an opportunity once a year in January to change the airline selected for the credit.

Fee credit for Global Entry or TSA Precheck

This card offers a statement credit of up to $100 every four years to cover the Global Entry application fee, or a statement credit of up to $85 every four and a half years to cover the TSA Precheck application fee. Note that Global Entry includes TSA Precheck for no additional fee. Having Global Entry or TSA Precheck can help you get through airport security with less hassle at certain airports — for the frequent traveler, this fee credit is a valuable benefit.

Baggage insurance plan

This benefit offers coverage for lost, damaged or stolen baggage when you purchase the entire fare for a common carrier vehicle ticket (such as a plane, train, ship or bus) on The Business Platinum Card® from American Express. Coverage applies whether you put the purchase on this card or redeem Membership Rewards points from this card for the ticket, but coverage does not apply if you use another form of payment, frequent flyer miles or points from another program.

The baggage insurance offered by The Business Platinum Card® from American Express is secondary coverage, which means it pays eligible benefits not paid by any primary insurance that you have. And be aware that for checked baggage, you must file a written report of the loss with the common carrier, otherwise you won’t be able to make use of this card’s insurance.

Trip delay insurance

If you purchased a round-trip ticket entirely on this card, and your trip is delayed by more than six hours for a covered reason, trip delay insurance may kick in. Coverage is limited to a maximum of $500 per trip and two claims per card in a consecutive 12-month period.

Some of the expenses that might be reimbursable include:

  • Meals
  • Lodging
  • Toiletries
  • Medication
  • Other personal-use items

Make sure to file a claim by calling 1-844-933-0648 within 60 days of the incident. And you’ll need to provide written proof within 180 days of the delay.

Trip cancellation and interruption insurance

If you purchased a round-trip ticket on a common carrier entirely with this card, and a covered reason cancels or interrupts the trip, this benefit may reimburse you.

The guide to benefits defines a common carrier as “any land, water or air conveyance operating under a valid license for the transportation of passengers for hire and for which a ticket must be purchased prior to commencing travel.”

Note that taxis, limousine services, commuter rail and commuter bus lines, personal automobiles and rental vehicles are not included. Coverage applies to you, your family members, and your traveling companions, as long as all tickets were purchased on this card.

You’ll need to open a claim within 60 days by calling 1-844-933-0648, and you’ll need to provide written proof of the incident within 180 days from the date it happened.

For business owners who travel frequently, The Business Platinum Card® from American Express offers more than enough benefits to make up the value of its $595 annual fee. It also offers a generous welcome offer for those who can meet the spending requirement.

However, for businesses that only require occasional travel, a less expensive travel card or a cashback card could be a better option. See our list of best business credit cards for recommendations.
