Are you looking to make an expensive purchase or tackle a high credit card balance, but lacking the funds to pay it off in full? An intro 0% APR credit card can help you out by providing up to 18 months of interest-free financing on new purchases, so you can carry a balance without being hit with high interest charges. There are also balance transfer cards that offer intro 0% APR periods as long as 21 months, which can help you pay off existing debt.

Carrying a balance month-to-month is never ideal, and the resulting interest charges may add hundreds of dollars to your debt and extend the amount of time it takes to pay it off. A study by CompareCards found interest rates averaging 16.91% for new credit cards and 24.97% for new store cards.

We’ve rounded up the longest 0% APR credit cards that have no annual fee and provide cardholders the chance to avoid high interest charges. Some of the cards below may even offer rewards and other noteworthy perks that can lead to increased savings.

Longest 0% APR credit cards

Before we review the longest intro 0% APR cards, we’ll review some situations where these cards are helpful, so you can decide if opening an intro 0% APR card is worthwhile. Otherwise, you can just skip to our card recommendations.

When to use an intro 0% APR credit card

The longest 0% APR credit cards can be especially useful when you need to finance a big purchase. Whether it’s remodeling a bathroom or fixing your car’s transmission, using a long 0% APR credit card is the easiest way to stretch out your payments over time without paying interest as long as you pay off your balance in full before the intro period ends.

Another situation when an intro 0% APR card can be helpful is if you need to transfer your balance from a high interest credit card. Trying to pay down a credit card with a high interest rate can feel like you’re not making progress. But if you transfer your balance to a card offering a long intro 0% APR period, all of your payments during the intro period will go towards paying the principal of your balance, instead of interest and principal. This can help you pay off your balances much quicker.
