Are you trying to rack up a credit card bill for your dying spouse?

By: David Baker | Jun 7, 2015

I don't want to tell you a lie, but I'm fairly sure it depends on whether he had it before you married him. If he applied for it after, then the cc company knows his factual data, & would probably try to hold you liable. That said, it doesn't seem like anything that a "living will" would be able to put to rest; but I'm not 100% with that, LB.

People with a high credit score in 800's don't have to have a credit card to get a high credit score. You can have auto loans or just a personal loan or any kind of a loan and pay them off and keep in good standing, and get a higher credit score without having a credit card. Credit cards are not the only way to get a high credit score. Get an auto loan or a loan for what ever reason and you can build your credit score up just as well without a credit card. Remember that everyone, you don't need a credit card to get a high credit score.

Is there a credit card for those who have fair credit and is trying to rebuild their credit?

Picture of Marvin L. Kirkpatrick

By: | Apr 29, 2015

Well people, it is a fact of life that you can have a score of more 800 without having any credit cards, mine is 815. I can walk into the bank and do just about what I want without getting on my hands and knees and begging. I just bought a new car with a 3.2 interest rate, I have a $20,000 line of cred with 4.8% interest rate. I do have card from Wells Fargo that I use only for Hotel reservations. Noting else. I am probably a little Older than most of you that are chatting here. My credit score has nothing to do with have card that use the hell out of on a daily basis.

Unfortunately, Alot of us are not in the same credit zone as you. There are other ways of establishing credit besides using credit cards. My credit score was 595 without credit.

Hi Betty,

Typically, if you're trying to rebuild credit, or establish it for the first time, the best place to start is with a secured credit card. A secured card is essentially a credit card with a security deposit. You give the bank a small amount of collateral in the form of cash and they give you a credit card, usually with a relatively low line of credit. Paying you monthly bill on this card will help you build credit, and after 6 months to a year, once you've established a good repayment history and if you don't owe anything on the card, they will return your collateral to you and you can apply for a standard, unsecured card card. We recommend you take a look at the Capital One Secured MasterCard or the Discover it Secured Credit Card.

If you pay your bills on time and don't carry much debt, it should take more than a year or two to get there!

I have a Quicksilver now and use it for literally everything to exploit the 1.5% cash back. I don't even withdraw cash unless its for local businesses in my neighborhood that only take cash or give me a discount for using it. I tried a Citi Double Cash but got rejected. 2% cash back on everything is the best deal now, unless you travel a lot then you can get an Amex.

0% Credit Cards & Interest Free Credit Cards

Low interest rate (or 0%) credit cards can save you hundreds of dollars on balance transfers and on routine purchases carried over as credit card balances. Or you may simply want to be rewarded with a preferential interest rate as acknowledgement for good credit history and responsible debt management. Whatever your goals or motivation, zero percent or low interest credit cards can help you maintain the lowest rates available to individuals with excellent to good credit. You can find out more about credit score here.

Keep in mind that there are two main categories of low rate credit cards, namely those that offer a Variable APR and those that give you a Fixed APR.  Just like with variable versus fixed rate mortgages, a fixed rate APR will remain relatively stable through the course of the loan. If your card company decides to raise it – which is somewhat rare – they will first notify you of that change according to Federal law requirements. With a variable rate, your APR is tied to a prevailing rate such as the Prime Interest Rate. If the prime rate increases then your APR will most likely follow in a similar fashion.

Generally speaking, credit card companies and banks will extend either 6 or 21 month offers – within the 0% to 3.99% annual interest rate range. That can generate a considerable discount when normal APRs are averaging around 15% or higher. Once the introductory promotional period expires, the APR on a low interest credit card or interest free credit card may revert to the regular interest rate. Of course the ideal balance is a credit card that offers a great near term rate followed by an attractive, competitively priced low interest rate for the long term.

The interest rate charged on your credit card is widely regarded as the single most important component of your card. That’s because it determines the major cost for you to borrow or roll over balances and pay them off over time instead of all at once or within the same month that you make purchases. That’s why getting a zero percent or low interest credit card can be huge financial boon, no matter what your credit card usage patterns or money management strategies may be.

Reviews
