I, Michael A. Yates, have not-so-good-credit, am on disability and need purchasing power through a credit card or a loan. Is there any help for me?

Suggestion: contact a local credit union. You may be able to get a secured card (without all the "big bank" fees). Prove yourself reliable with payments on that card and eventually they will convert it to a regular credit card.

I need to transfer all my credit cards that I have, would I get an approval for what I need, I'm looking for about 35,000 and my credit score 675, I pay all my bill on time

Hi Carol,

A $35,000 line of credit is a very high amount for a personal credit card. With a score in the high 600s, your credit rating is considered fair to good, and it is extremely unlikely that you will get approved for a credit line that high. Nonetheless, a good balance transfer credit card like the Chase Slate or the Citi Simplicity could be a useful tool to help pay off some of your other cards. Even if you aren't able to transfer every balance onto one card, I would still take advantage of the numerous offers with 0% APR to begin to chip away at your debt.

Hi Kathy,

When you apply online, almost every credit card application can give you an instant decision on whether or not you are approved. Most credit card applications will include a place where you can put the information in to initiate a balance transfer. I would recommend the Chase Slate, which offers 0% APR for 15 months, no annual fee, and no balance transfer fee.

Hi Erik,

The Discover It for Students card is a great option for college students. This credit card is packed with features that are perfect for a first time cardholder, and they are usually willing to approve applications even if they don't have a lengthy credit history.

Hi Lisa,

For low interest, the card I would recommend is the Citi Simplicity. This card offers 21 months with 0% APR!

is the Chase Slate card accepted everywhere?

Hi Annmarie,

The Chase Slate is a Visa card, so it should be accepted just about everywhere that takes credit cards as a form of payment!

you got to have very good credit to get one of those cards! it's not easy owning a 0% interest credit card.

Hi Thesby,

While it's true that you do need excellent credit to get approved for the best credit card offers, there are still a number of options available for consumers whose credit scores are a little lower. As Connie mentioned below, people often get approved for the Chase Slate, one of the best balance transfer credit cards, with credit scores in the mid 600s!

By: Connie Talerico | Sep 30, 2015

I got a Chase Slate with my score just reaching over 620. 2000$ limit. I have been rebuilding my credit for last 10 months and maybe that helped, however, it proves it is not impossible and your credit does not have to be "very good"! I am so appreciative for this card and the 0 interest, it came in a nick of time for me! When you work hard to rebuild your credit, just start with one card, or prepaid card, and pay on time every single month, have a little patience, and it will work out.

I am planning my wedding and need a card that I can put everything on and then pay off within the following 12 or 18 months interest free. Who is the best for something like?

By: CompareCards | Oct 1, 2015

Hi Kaylyn,

If you have a good credit score, there are a number of credit cards that would be a great fit for you. The first one that comes to mind is the Citi Simplicity Card which offeres 0% APR on purchases for the first 21 months. This is the longest intro APR available, but you need excellent credit to get approved.

Another good choice that only requires good credit is the Chase Freedom. This card will earn you cash back on all your purchases and it offers 0% APR for 15 months as well.

0% Credit Cards & Interest Free Credit Cards

Low interest rate (or 0%) credit cards can save you hundreds of dollars on balance transfers and on routine purchases carried over as credit card balances. Or you may simply want to be rewarded with a preferential interest rate as acknowledgement for good credit history and responsible debt management. Whatever your goals or motivation, zero percent or low interest credit cards can help you maintain the lowest rates available to individuals with excellent to good credit. You can find out more about credit score here.

Keep in mind that there are two main categories of low rate credit cards, namely those that offer a Variable APR and those that give you a Fixed APR.  Just like with variable versus fixed rate mortgages, a fixed rate APR will remain relatively stable through the course of the loan. If your card company decides to raise it – which is somewhat rare – they will first notify you of that change according to Federal law requirements. With a variable rate, your APR is tied to a prevailing rate such as the Prime Interest Rate. If the prime rate increases then your APR will most likely follow in a similar fashion.

Generally speaking, credit card companies and banks will extend either 6 or 21 month offers – within the 0% to 3.99% annual interest rate range. That can generate a considerable discount when normal APRs are averaging around 15% or higher. Once the introductory promotional period expires, the APR on a low interest credit card or interest free credit card may revert to the regular interest rate. Of course the ideal balance is a credit card that offers a great near term rate followed by an attractive, competitively priced low interest rate for the long term.

The interest rate charged on your credit card is widely regarded as the single most important component of your card. That’s because it determines the major cost for you to borrow or roll over balances and pay them off over time instead of all at once or within the same month that you make purchases. That’s why getting a zero percent or low interest credit card can be huge financial boon, no matter what your credit card usage patterns or money management strategies may be.
