Hi Charlene,

When deciding on the best credit card for emergencies, you should looks for the cards with low interest rates and the fewest fees. Two great options to consider would be the Barclaycard Ring MasterCard or the Citi Simplicity.

Hi Jesse,

To qualify for credit cards with the terms you described, you typically need to have good credit. If you think your score is at least in the upper 600s, you may be able to get approved for the Chase Slate card, which has 0% APR for 15 months and no annual fee.

not so great of credit cards available for rebuilding credit?

By: CompareCards | Jan 21, 2016

Hi Lisa,

If you're trying to rebuild credit, you may need to start with a secured credit card. A secured card works just like a normal credit card, but you have to put down a refundable security deposit to get approved. The Capital One Secured MasterCard and the Discover it Secured Credit Card are both great options.

Capital One has many cards available and they are easy to work with.

Throughout most of my life I always paid my bills on time. But now, after some setbacks , health problems, etc., my credit rating has gone from great to lousy. What's a good , low interest card to use for rebuilding?

By: CompareCards | Jan 21, 2016

Hi Jazherah,

If you have poor credit, it is not likely that you will be able to get approved for a low interest credit card. One option to consider is the Capital One QuicksilverOne.

I am pretty savvy in getting 0% interest cards to pay off interest cards and so on and on I go. I hate interest. so far so good. with a 819 score how many 0% can I safely apply for to keep ball rolling?

By: CompareCards | Jan 21, 2016

Hi Marie,

By transferring your balance over and over you will accrue higher balance simply from the balance transfer fees, even if you don't pay interest. Once the you run out of cards with 0% APR, you may be stuck with a high interest rate and a large balance to pay down. I would recommend using the 0% APR to pay off your debt quickly instead of simply postponing your debt reduction and potentially accumulating a higher balance

By: Duane Cook | Jan 20, 2016

Thats a pretty good turn around 819 is great. Your doing great

Just received an application for the barclaycard ring. What are the pros and cons to having this credit card?

By: CompareCards | Jan 8, 2016

Hi Cynthia,

The Barclaycard Ring MasterCard is an excellent credit card if you're looking for a simple card with low fees, low interest, and no complicated rewards program to worry about. With only 8.25% APR on purchases and balance transfers, this credit card has one of the lowest ongoing APR's on the market. Furthermore, there is no annual fee and no balance transfer fee either. The only potential cons of the Barclay Ring MasterCard are that there is no intro APR and no rewards program.

0% Credit Cards & Interest Free Credit Cards

Low interest rate (or 0%) credit cards can save you hundreds of dollars on balance transfers and on routine purchases carried over as credit card balances. Or you may simply want to be rewarded with a preferential interest rate as acknowledgement for good credit history and responsible debt management. Whatever your goals or motivation, zero percent or low interest credit cards can help you maintain the lowest rates available to individuals with excellent to good credit. You can find out more about credit score here.

Keep in mind that there are two main categories of low rate credit cards, namely those that offer a Variable APR and those that give you a Fixed APR.  Just like with variable versus fixed rate mortgages, a fixed rate APR will remain relatively stable through the course of the loan. If your card company decides to raise it – which is somewhat rare – they will first notify you of that change according to Federal law requirements. With a variable rate, your APR is tied to a prevailing rate such as the Prime Interest Rate. If the prime rate increases then your APR will most likely follow in a similar fashion.

Generally speaking, credit card companies and banks will extend either 6 or 21 month offers – within the 0% to 3.99% annual interest rate range. That can generate a considerable discount when normal APRs are averaging around 15% or higher. Once the introductory promotional period expires, the APR on a low interest credit card or interest free credit card may revert to the regular interest rate. Of course the ideal balance is a credit card that offers a great near term rate followed by an attractive, competitively priced low interest rate for the long term.

The interest rate charged on your credit card is widely regarded as the single most important component of your card. That’s because it determines the major cost for you to borrow or roll over balances and pay them off over time instead of all at once or within the same month that you make purchases. That’s why getting a zero percent or low interest credit card can be huge financial boon, no matter what your credit card usage patterns or money management strategies may be.
