Hi Nancy,

Your credit score is actually considered fair/average, so you may be able to get approved for a better credit card than you think. I'd recommend trying the Capital One QuicksilverOne credit card !

I have bad credit what card is good for me something to build my credit up

By: CompareCards | Mar 11, 2016

Hi Juliet,

If you have bad credit, you'll probably have to start with a secured credit card. Secured cards work just like normal credit cards, but you have to put down a refundable security deposit to get approved. We recommend the Capital One Secured MasterCard or the Discover it Secured Credit Card.

I am planning a trip and need a card with no interest for 1.5 or 2 years. I also like those rewards. My credit score is in the 800 range

Hi Linda,

Two excellent options for rewards credit cards that also have low interest are the Citi Double Cash and the Chase Freedom. Both cards come with no annual fee and 0% APR for 15 months on purchases. If you want the longest intro APR possible, then check out the Citi Simplicity.

My credit score is 590 do I qualify for one of these offers

By: CompareCards | Mar 9, 2016

Hi Teresa,

With a credit score below 600, your options will be very limited in terms of which card you can get approved for. You will probably have to start with a secured credit card. We recommend the Capital One Secured MasterCard or the Discover it Secured Credit Card.

Have credit score about 820-830,can i get a fixed rate credit card

By: CompareCards | Feb 25, 2016

Hi Norman,

With a credit score in the 800s, your rating is considered excellent and you should be able to get approved for any card you choose. However, fixed interest rate credit cards all but disappeared after the CARD Act of 2010, and almost all credit card rates will vary based on the interest rates set by the Federal Reserve. If you're looking for the lowest possible ongoing interest rate, I'd suggest the Barclaycard Ring MasterCard which has a very competitive 8.25% APR as well as no annual fee, no balance transfer fees, and no foreign transaction fees.

I have a low credit score because I was turned in for some medical bills from my late husband. I want to improve my credit score and prove that I can do and keep the payments up. How can I do that if no one will give you a chance

Hi Loretta,

If you have a low credit score, you'll probably have to start with a secured credit card. A secured card works just like a normal credit card and it will help you build your credit with responsible use, but you have to put down a refundable security deposit to get approved. The Capital One Secured MasterCard and the Discover it Secured Credit Card are both great options.

I have credit score of 700. Never missed a credit card payment. But I want to consolidate 3 cards into one payment. How can I get this done. Now

By: CompareCards | Feb 22, 2016

Hi Bonnie,

With a score of 700, your credit is considered good and you should be able to get approved for the Chase Slate card, which is one of the best balance transfer credit cards on the market. This card offers 0% APR for 15 months and no transfer fee for balance transfers made within the first 60 days.

Hi Shelby,

Your credit score is considered excellent and you should be able to get approved for any credit card you choose. If you continually pay your balance off in full, then I would recommend a good rewards credit card like the Citi Double Cash which offerse 2% cash back on all purchases.

I have a 611/689 rating which I understand to be considered fair credit. I am repaying a student loan I rehabilitated, and am just starting to pay full payments, I work just about full time and can afford a secured card but do not know how to go about it. Can someone out there help me?

Hi Deborah,

With your credit score, you may be able to get approved for an unsecured credit card, which means you won't have to put down a security deposit. The Capital One Platinum Credit Card is a good card for building credit, and it is very like you could get approved with your credit score.

0% Credit Cards & Interest Free Credit Cards

Low interest rate (or 0%) credit cards can save you hundreds of dollars on balance transfers and on routine purchases carried over as credit card balances. Or you may simply want to be rewarded with a preferential interest rate as acknowledgement for good credit history and responsible debt management. Whatever your goals or motivation, zero percent or low interest credit cards can help you maintain the lowest rates available to individuals with excellent to good credit. You can find out more about credit score here.

Keep in mind that there are two main categories of low rate credit cards, namely those that offer a Variable APR and those that give you a Fixed APR.  Just like with variable versus fixed rate mortgages, a fixed rate APR will remain relatively stable through the course of the loan. If your card company decides to raise it – which is somewhat rare – they will first notify you of that change according to Federal law requirements. With a variable rate, your APR is tied to a prevailing rate such as the Prime Interest Rate. If the prime rate increases then your APR will most likely follow in a similar fashion.

Generally speaking, credit card companies and banks will extend either 6 or 21 month offers – within the 0% to 3.99% annual interest rate range. That can generate a considerable discount when normal APRs are averaging around 15% or higher. Once the introductory promotional period expires, the APR on a low interest credit card or interest free credit card may revert to the regular interest rate. Of course the ideal balance is a credit card that offers a great near term rate followed by an attractive, competitively priced low interest rate for the long term.

The interest rate charged on your credit card is widely regarded as the single most important component of your card. That’s because it determines the major cost for you to borrow or roll over balances and pay them off over time instead of all at once or within the same month that you make purchases. That’s why getting a zero percent or low interest credit card can be huge financial boon, no matter what your credit card usage patterns or money management strategies may be.
