I have credit score of 828 and looking to get a zero interest credit card for some unexpected expenses. I have no doubt I can pay it off within the terms but the longer the better. Any suggestions?

Hi Tom,

IF you're looking for a credit card to finance some big expenses and your credit is fair, consider the Capital One QuicksilverOne.

My credit score is now 618, it was 663 last year when we started to look at used pickup trucks. each dealership applied to several loan places. how do I get my credit score back up. and whats the best card that I can get now?

Hi John,

With a score in the low 600s, your credit is considered fair. Any credit card will help you build credit as long as you make your payments on time and keep your balances low. The Capital One Platinum Credit Card would be a good option for you as you can likely get approved.

I'm a student and looking to switch my card company from Discover to Mastercard. Righ now I have the Discover It card with 5% rotating cash back and a decently low interest rate. Are there any comparable Mastercards I could go with? I have a credit score of 756 or so

The Chase Freedom is very similar to the Discover It, but it is a Visa not a MasterCard. However, Visa will be accepted anywhere that takes MasterCard, so if acceptance is your concern then this should not keep you from applying for the Chase Freedom. With a score in the mid 700s, you will have no problem getting approved! Check out this blog post for a detailed comparison of the two credit cards!

I have a credit score of 639! What kind of card can I get?

With a score in the mid 600s, your credit is considered fair/average and your focus should be on building your credit into the 700s and avoiding interest charges. There are a number of credit card you have a good chance of getting approved for but the two I would consider are the Capital One Platinum Card or the Capital One QuicksilverOne. Whichever card you choose, always make sure you pay your bills on time and try to pay off your balance in full each month to avoid paying interest.

Hi Crystal,

With a credit score in the mid 500s, you'll need to start with a secured credit card. Check out the Capital One Secured MasterCard or the Discover it Secured Credit Card, they're both excellent options!

I have a 688 score. Is there a card That I can get, to combine all cards in one with lower interest rate?

By: CompareCards | Mar 18, 2016

Hi Marlene,

The Chase Slate card is an excellent balance transfer credit card and with a credit score in the high 600s, you have a good shot of getting approved. This credit card comes with no annual fee, 0% APR for 15 months, and no fee for balance transfers made within the first 60 days.

I have had multiple dental expenses which have been over $6,000. I charge these to my American Express Blue card but it has a high APR. I want a card that I can transfer my AmEx charges to without any upfront interest or costs plus 0% interest charge for 15+ months. My balance is approximately $2,000 but I go to dentist tomorrow and am expecting the final charge of $1,900+.

Hi Linda,

It sounds like the Chase Slate is the best credit card for you. This card comes with 0% APR for 15 months and no fee for balance transfers made within the first 60 days of account opening.

0% Credit Cards & Interest Free Credit Cards

Low interest rate (or 0%) credit cards can save you hundreds of dollars on balance transfers and on routine purchases carried over as credit card balances. Or you may simply want to be rewarded with a preferential interest rate as acknowledgement for good credit history and responsible debt management. Whatever your goals or motivation, zero percent or low interest credit cards can help you maintain the lowest rates available to individuals with excellent to good credit. You can find out more about credit score here.

Keep in mind that there are two main categories of low rate credit cards, namely those that offer a Variable APR and those that give you a Fixed APR.  Just like with variable versus fixed rate mortgages, a fixed rate APR will remain relatively stable through the course of the loan. If your card company decides to raise it – which is somewhat rare – they will first notify you of that change according to Federal law requirements. With a variable rate, your APR is tied to a prevailing rate such as the Prime Interest Rate. If the prime rate increases then your APR will most likely follow in a similar fashion.

Generally speaking, credit card companies and banks will extend either 6 or 21 month offers – within the 0% to 3.99% annual interest rate range. That can generate a considerable discount when normal APRs are averaging around 15% or higher. Once the introductory promotional period expires, the APR on a low interest credit card or interest free credit card may revert to the regular interest rate. Of course the ideal balance is a credit card that offers a great near term rate followed by an attractive, competitively priced low interest rate for the long term.

The interest rate charged on your credit card is widely regarded as the single most important component of your card. That’s because it determines the major cost for you to borrow or roll over balances and pay them off over time instead of all at once or within the same month that you make purchases. That’s why getting a zero percent or low interest credit card can be huge financial boon, no matter what your credit card usage patterns or money management strategies may be.
