I need to transfer balance from 2 credit cards. No annual fee and no interest for at least 18 months. My credit score is excellent. Which one should I go for?

Hi Maria,

The Citi Simplicity would be a great fit for what you're looking for. This card comes with 0% APR for 21 months on purchases and balance transfers. There is also no annual fee, and with an excellent credit score you shouldn't have any problem getting approved.

What is the best credit card to earn miles with someone who has a perfect credit score?

By: CompareCards | May 2, 2016

Hi Cindy,

If you have a perfect credit score then you should be able to get approved for any credit card you want. To pick the best card for you, you should think about what airline miles you would like to earn. If you prefer to fly on one particular airline, then you should go with that airline's specific co-branded credit card. Examples of these would be the Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select or the United MilagePlus Explorer Card. If you want to earn more flexible airline miles that can be redeemed on any airline, then check out the Capital One Venture!

I am wanting to do a balance transfer; however I do not like entering my Social Security online, how can I avoid this?

Hi Linda,

There is no way to apply for a balance transfer credit card without providing your Social Security Number. However, online bank security has become very advances in recent years, so you can rest assured that your information is save and secure when applying for a credit card online.

To establish credit. Go to the bank get the smallest loan possible put it in to a checking or savings account and have the payment automatic withdrawn from a account. But do not spend the money. This shows you can get a loan pay it back with no problems. You can it off sooner according to the contract.

I keep looking for a balance transfer card and my credit is fair. I did declare bankruptcy in 2008 which was discharged, but none of the credit cards that were referred to me by credit karma accepted my application. Should I wait until 2008 (when the bankruptcy is supposed to drop off my credit report) and just give up?

Hi Lyn,

If you are repeatadly being denied for credit cards then you probably need to start with a secured credit card. Secured cards work just like normal credit cards but you will have to put down a refundable security deposit to get approved. They are a great tool for building credit. We recommend the Capital One Secured MasterCard as it comes with no annual fee and a free credit tracking service.

Hi Lisa,

The Capital One Secured MasterCard would be a great place to start. Since you put down a security deposit to get approved, they will usually allow anyone to open account, even if your credit is very bad.

You should start opening a secured credit card account with capital one first, you might have to deposit $50&up in order to get the credit card shipped. After few months of usage make sure you use 30% of the credit, it's not good to use it all at once unless you pay full balance the next day.

0% Credit Cards & Interest Free Credit Cards

Low interest rate (or 0%) credit cards can save you hundreds of dollars on balance transfers and on routine purchases carried over as credit card balances. Or you may simply want to be rewarded with a preferential interest rate as acknowledgement for good credit history and responsible debt management. Whatever your goals or motivation, zero percent or low interest credit cards can help you maintain the lowest rates available to individuals with excellent to good credit. You can find out more about credit score here.

Keep in mind that there are two main categories of low rate credit cards, namely those that offer a Variable APR and those that give you a Fixed APR.  Just like with variable versus fixed rate mortgages, a fixed rate APR will remain relatively stable through the course of the loan. If your card company decides to raise it – which is somewhat rare – they will first notify you of that change according to Federal law requirements. With a variable rate, your APR is tied to a prevailing rate such as the Prime Interest Rate. If the prime rate increases then your APR will most likely follow in a similar fashion.

Generally speaking, credit card companies and banks will extend either 6 or 21 month offers – within the 0% to 3.99% annual interest rate range. That can generate a considerable discount when normal APRs are averaging around 15% or higher. Once the introductory promotional period expires, the APR on a low interest credit card or interest free credit card may revert to the regular interest rate. Of course the ideal balance is a credit card that offers a great near term rate followed by an attractive, competitively priced low interest rate for the long term.

The interest rate charged on your credit card is widely regarded as the single most important component of your card. That’s because it determines the major cost for you to borrow or roll over balances and pay them off over time instead of all at once or within the same month that you make purchases. That’s why getting a zero percent or low interest credit card can be huge financial boon, no matter what your credit card usage patterns or money management strategies may be.
