Using my Discover card to prepare for a trip is one of my safest plans. Staying on top of my expenses and money used for leisure helps me to control my finances and monitor my credit score. Leaving room for usage of other credit cards such as American express one of my personal favorites.

I am probably going to get creamed by everyone and I most likely deserve it. HERE IS MY ISSUE: When I get bored, I apply for a credit card. I am never turned down because I am sitting on over 200,000 dollars of credit with an 818 FICO score that seems to stay between 810 and 825 depending on if I apply for another CC. It has become an issue with me obviously. HOWEVER, I don't owe a cent to any of them. I spend app. 2000 dollars a month on CCs and pay them off every month. I haven't paid interest in 25 years. When a ad pops up and says that it is for "EXCELLENT" credit, I get hyped. I am proud of my excellent credit and what it CAN do for me if I wish. The problem is; I DON'T need another one. Has anyone here known someone like me or is there someone here that is like me? This is the first time I have spoken about it in public and this is actually "ME" hiding behind my computer so it isn't too public. Thanks for listening to me ramble.

I have finally gotten my husband and I's credit at the same place as you and I'm loving the power to say NO. We only use are Card's when we know we can pay them off the same month without any interest. It's fun to have that kind of power. We weren't always there, but that's where we want to stay. AND yes, I just got 3 new cards with very low interest rates, if we ever use them. So, it's wonderful to have that kind of power and to be in control rather than the other way around. So, I'm with you. AND we have 825 Credit Score, so if we ever buy a house, we will have the choice of the lowest interest rates. . .Yea! I just hope others catch on and learn to control there spending too. Its very freeing. Thanks for sharing.

I have a lot of cards with high credit lines and scores similar to yours. I don't think there's anything wrong with what you're doing since it's not causing any harm, but there are probably better solutions to overcome boredom than applying for credit cards. Whenever I apply for a card, I do it for specific reasons, mainly to get bonuses that I convert to free travel. If you like to travel, or want good cash back, it makes sense to apply for cards that will return some benefit to you. I have two airline-specific cards and several other cards that earn flexible points for use on practically any airline and many hotels. Accumulating miles/points or cashback is very rewarding as long as you pay in full.

By: Maria Mkr | Jul 11, 2016

I love to hear that! Excellent!

By: Ed Forney | Jul 11, 2016

I probably have 12 cards, and a Fico of 840. Don't need or want anymore.

By: Charles Burkett | Jul 12, 2016

You might check out Discover it Cashback Match. Sounds like a deal for you.

By: Laura Laeycs | Jul 12, 2016

Yes, Gary that would be me. I do the same.

By: Dietrick L. Judd | Jul 15, 2016

I currently in the same situation, My score isn't as high as yours , but in the high 780s.i find myself applying for credit just as you . It's addictive and I just apply to see what limit I will receive.

By: Stanley Ziegler | Jul 18, 2016

Two warnings to guys carrying too many credits cards in your wallet. When you sit on that wallet it puts your body and particularly your spine out of alignment. This is not good for your health. The second is it gives a pick pocket the opportunity to take a card or two from your wallet without you knowing until you get a bill for goods you haven't bought. I have three credit cards and only carry two at any one time. I guess you can call me super cautious.

By: John Fiore | Jul 20, 2016

Very similar circumstances. Have now narrowed the cards to just a few.

By: Marlene Daeseleer | Jul 21, 2016

I use my discover card for every thing! And I too pay it off when bill comes in.. I don't buy unless i know i can pay it soon as bill comes in...my fico is between 813 & 826. I'm money wise..

Hi, I'm looking for the best rewards card with no maximum earning for business purchases. I don't need airline perks and APR does not matter, as I will not be carrying a balance. I currently have the AMEX Plum card that gives a 1.5% discount but hoping to get above 2% cash back. Willing to pay annual fees, as I can offset the costs if needed through several million dollars of purchases/year. The best cards that seem to fit that are the Citi Double Cash Card (1% + 1%) and the Spark Cash by Capital One card (2%). Any others out there anyone would suggest?

check out citibanks costco card they have 4 3 2 1 levels just need to be a costco member

The card APR seems high on all of these. There must be a low interest card out there without all the cash back, travel etc. Just an ordinary card with a 6% APR.

One credit card that has a very low interest rate is the Barclaycard Ring MasterCard. This card has no annual fee, no balance transfer fee, and a competitive APR of 8.25%. (from Compare Cards)

By: John Smith | Jul 7, 2016

Because these are cards for people with excellent credit, most people with excellent credit pay their balance off and don't have to worry about APR...

By: Hyla Deane | Jul 8, 2016

If you ever find one that low wake up, you are dreaming. The Barklay Ring cc has a flat rate of 8%, I think, check them out.

simmons bank! no frills but i have had it for years amd have a 7.50 interest rate never has went up

By: Eugene Senger | Jul 17, 2016

I have a Bank of America card with a 4.9 rate

By: | Jun 27, 2016

I don't know why you would recommend the AmEx Everyday Card with 2% cash-back for groceries when a similar minimum credit rating will get you the no-annual-fee AmEx Blue Cash Everyday Card which gives 3% cash-back on groceries. Both cards give 1% cash-back for everything else and "groceries" basically means standalone-supermarkets, not warehouse or discount stores.

I had a card with flyer miles, I now have the citi double cash, its 3 times better than flyer miles, example spending $100,000 will get 2 people a round trip ticket with fees and your lilmited to selction because you are using miles. Spensing $100,000 will get you $2000 cash to spend on any airline, psiibly 3 round trips for 2 people.

I too, have found the Sapphire card to be the best I have. I used the Amex Platinum until I stopped flying as much so the Sapphire has been my go to card recently.

0% Credit Cards & Interest Free Credit Cards

Low interest rate (or 0%) credit cards can save you hundreds of dollars on balance transfers and on routine purchases carried over as credit card balances. Or you may simply want to be rewarded with a preferential interest rate as acknowledgement for good credit history and responsible debt management. Whatever your goals or motivation, zero percent or low interest credit cards can help you maintain the lowest rates available to individuals with excellent to good credit. You can find out more about credit score here.

Keep in mind that there are two main categories of low rate credit cards, namely those that offer a Variable APR and those that give you a Fixed APR.  Just like with variable versus fixed rate mortgages, a fixed rate APR will remain relatively stable through the course of the loan. If your card company decides to raise it – which is somewhat rare – they will first notify you of that change according to Federal law requirements. With a variable rate, your APR is tied to a prevailing rate such as the Prime Interest Rate. If the prime rate increases then your APR will most likely follow in a similar fashion.

Generally speaking, credit card companies and banks will extend either 6 or 21 month offers – within the 0% to 3.99% annual interest rate range. That can generate a considerable discount when normal APRs are averaging around 15% or higher. Once the introductory promotional period expires, the APR on a low interest credit card or interest free credit card may revert to the regular interest rate. Of course the ideal balance is a credit card that offers a great near term rate followed by an attractive, competitively priced low interest rate for the long term.

The interest rate charged on your credit card is widely regarded as the single most important component of your card. That’s because it determines the major cost for you to borrow or roll over balances and pay them off over time instead of all at once or within the same month that you make purchases. That’s why getting a zero percent or low interest credit card can be huge financial boon, no matter what your credit card usage patterns or money management strategies may be.
