Expert Reviews

From the Editorial Team

The Walmart MoneyCard is a prepaid card that you load with money and then can use essentially the way you use a typical debit card. Use it for purchases everywhere MasterCard or Visa debit cards are accepted in the U.S. You can also use your prepaid MoneyCard to send money for free to another person’s Walmart MoneyCard. There are also some cash rewards perks available to cardholders.

The Bottom Line

If you need a prepaid card, this one is a good one, because it offers lower fees and charges combined with convenience and a cash-back rewards program if you shop at Walmart.

The Good

Earn cash-back rewards when you use the card to shop at Walmart. You will earn 1% cash-back at Walmart stores, and 3% cash-back at

The Not So Good

This is a prepaid card, not a full-fledged credit card, so you have to load the card with money before you can use it to charge transactions.
Your ability to earn cash-back rewards is also restricted because you can only earn up to $75 in cash-back rewards within a 12-month period.
There is a monthly service charge of $5 unless you load at least $1,000 to the card the previous month. ATM and teller cash withdrawals are $2.50 per transaction and there is a 50 cents surcharge to check your balance on an ATM.
