The Bottom-Line
The American Express Platinum card sets the bar higher in terms of features, benefits, personal service, and 5-star amenities. Meanwhile you earn one rewards point per dollar and are able to rack up hundreds of dollars worth of VIP perks, credits, and discounts at select hotels, airlines, and other merchants.

The Good
You can earn 25,000 bonus award points just for signing up and using the card to spend $1,000 during the first three months of membership. You earn one point for every dollar spent, and the card has no preset spending limit. Travel rewards don’t expire and are good on any airline with no seat restrictions or blackout dates. The amenities for cardholders are numerous and top notch, and they include hundreds of dollars worth of credits, perks, and free services throughout the year, including free access to 600 airport VIP lounges.

The Not So Good
You need excellent credit, must pay off your balance every month, and there is a $450 annual fee – although you can add up to three other cardholders to your account for only $175 a year.
