The Bottom Line

The best reason to carry this card is probably to enjoy the 5% off savings – or free shipping if you shop online. But those savings may be offset by the high APR if you carry a balance. There may be other full-fledged credit cards that offer ways to earn comparable savings through their rewards programs or online shopping portals and merchant partnerships. So it’s a good idea to shop around and compare cards.

The Good

Cardholders are entitled to 5% savings, everyday, when they charge their Target and Target.com purchases – plus there is no annual fee for the card. You also get free shipping and 30-day returns and can manage your account and make payments online.

The Not So Good

The card is for charging Target purchases, so it is not a full-fledged credit card that can be used elsewhere. There is a 23.15% purchase APR, which is quite steep compared to the rates charged by many conventional credit cards. If you carry a balance instead of paying off the card each month before interest accrues, this high APR will undermine whatever savings you got from card membership.
