Prepaid Rush cards are Visa cards from the company inspired by hip-hop entrepreneur Russell Simmons, one of the pioneers of the celebrity prepaid card industry.

You can choose from several different prepaid Rush cards, but all of them share the feature that makes them most popular – namely, you can get them with no credit or bad credit because there is no credit check. There are no interest rates or late fees, because the money that supports your charges is loaded by you into the account before you use the card. In that way you control your own credit limit, and the card is honored at all retailers that accept Visa. Prepaid cards in the Rush lineup all offer essentially the same menu of features and they all follow a similar fee schedule. There is a $7.95 one-time application charge, for example, and a $9.95 monthly fee. You can also sign up for a program that waives some fees but offers limited features designed mostly to help cardholders cash their checks and withdraw the funds.

Meanwhile there are also features for free like online money management tools, text alerts, a prescription drug discount card, and 24/7 customer service. Baby Phat Prepaid Visa is an example of one of the newer Rush cards – and it has a distinctive logo and look. But ordering Rush cards with special graphics and colors may cost several dollars more. Refer a friend who becomes a cardholder and you can be eligible for a $5 referral bonus, too.

The Bottom-Line
Rush prepaid cards offers a variety of different cards and looks, but all of them share essentially the same features – including no credit check or late fees and handy online financial management tools. You can earn $5 for referring friends, and although there are some miscellaneous fees many of the features are free. There is also the option to sign up for “pay as you go” which eliminates some fees in exchange for streamlined features mostly related to cashing paychecks.

The Good
The Rush line of cards require no credit check or financial history to speak of, and you can earn $5 each time you refer a friend to become a cardholder.

The Not So Good
There is a monthly maintenance fee of $9.95 and prepaid cards are limited to how much cash you deposit into the account before you can draw upon those funds.
