This plastic doesn’t have lots of bells and whistles. But it does offer an affordably priced card with solid benefits – which may make First Option your preferred option.

The Bottom Line

The card is plain vanilla in most respects, but has lower fees and rates than do most of the credit cards that are issued these days. That in itself is a big plus if you intend to carry a balance.

The Good

There is no annual fee, the APR is reasonable and lower than what you’ll find on most cards, and cardholders enjoy benefits such as auto rental and travel accident insurance coverage.
The APR for balance transfers and purchases is 11.67%. That is cheap enough that it deserves inclusion in the list of good features, whereas the APR is normally one of the not-so-good features of any credit card.

The Not So Good

The APR for cash advances is 18%, and there is a cash advance surcharge of either $5 or 2% per transaction, whichever is greater.  There is also a 2% foreign transaction fee.
