The Platinum card from Credit One Bank is geared toward the consumer who needs to find a card that will give them the tools necessary to improve their credit score and credit history. In that respect the card does a good job of offering a full-fledged card with several financial management and account oversight tools to help strengthen one’s credit.
This card offers several convenient features designed to help you manage, monitor, and improve your credit. Meanwhile it functions just like other full-fledged credit cards. Instead of being a restrictive prepaid type of plastic (which can be like a bike with training wheels) this card carries the same prestige and responsibility as other regular credit cards. You can also choose your own card design from the card issuer’s gallery of images.
The $99 annual fee is steep, and the $75 annual fee introductory rate for new cardholders is still expensive. There is no fee charged when you make a standard payment, but you’ll be charged $9.95 if you use the Express Payment option.
|Regular APR:||23.9% (V)|
|Annual Fee:||$75 First year (Introductory period). $99 thereafter”|
|Credit Needed:||Bad, No Credit, Fair|
From the CompareCards.com Editorial Team:
This is a versatile choice of plastic for those consumers who are trying to build or repair their credit. Not only does it offer unique features to help accomplish that, but it also delivers some additional perks and tools. Those include email and text account activity notifications, 24-hour online account access, travel accident insurance, an auto rental collision damage waiver, and zero-dollar fraud liability if the card is reported lost or stolen. For those who want to customize the appearance of their plastic, that is also an option. Just browse the images on the card’s website and pick your favorite.
The main benefit of this particular card, however, is for helping establish or reestablish credit. Each cardholder account is periodically reviewed for credit worthiness, and that can result in an automatic increase of your credit limit if your track record for payments is good. That helps to bolster your credit score, too, especially if you are disciplined enough to only use a maximum of 25%-30% of your available credit. You can also pick your own recurring payment due date.
The Visa Platinum from Credit One Bank can be applied for online or when you receive a card membership invitation through the mail. Your credit limit will be based on your credit worthiness and may be as high as $1,500.
If you receive a preapproved offer you are almost guaranteed to qualify for a card. But otherwise you can find out if you are prequalified by clicking on the various links provided on the Credit One Bank homepage.Those who want to find out if they are prequalified can do so within less than 60 seconds after filling out an online form at the company’s secure site. This is a good option for those who are shopping for plastic, especially if they are trying to strengthen their credit score. That’s because doing a full application with credit checks involved multiple times can trigger a lowering of your score. But with pre-qualification you are able to find out whether your chance of approval is high before actually submitting an application.
The card carries a 23.90% APR which is relatively high, but is pretty much in line with the rates offered by many other cards today. There is, however, a rather high annual membership fee – something that is also a common feature among many cards that are marketed to people with less than stellar credit.
